Fantastic Experience

My husband and I went to this hotel for our honeymoon and we were so pleased. We paid a great price and the service was exceptional. Every single knew our name started the moment we checked in. The hotel restraurant was amazing and not overpriced for a hotel of this quality.

I stayed this past saturday (9-12-09) to go to a concert. This was my second time staying at the hotel. Both time weddings were going on. The staff very much caters ti tge beeds of the weddings and not so much when it comes to the guests. This visit as soon as a came in the door the lady that was directing traffic looked at my clothes and said "checking in" that way. It just seemed rude as soon as I walked in. I would have preferred a "good evening" "are you checking in?". Then while being checked in you are told which elevators to use and not use. The weddings are held in the lobby. I worked for hotels before and we did weddings but the weddings were not aloud to take place in the common areas. This hotel needs to take better actions to make the guests staying in the hotel feel welcome also. I will not stay here again and it is a shame because the hotel is beautiful and in a wonderful location.

Union Station Hotel

Valet parking was a little expensive! But otherwise, I loved everything else about the hotel. Nice, intimate dining.

Loved the historic aspect, not much else

I thought the hotel was very beautiful on the exterior and the history that comes with it makes it really unique. However, my first room had a huge area of black mold spanning from floor to ceiling at the edge of the window. I was transferred to a much better kept room. In addition, I was given a bill under my door the next day and was reassured that I would not be bill twice since I went thru this site. -Oh but two days later I had two charges showing up on my bill. Just not the best managed hotel, I'm afraid..

Marvelous Historic Hotel

This hotel used to be a train station that was renovated into a Wyndham 4-star hotel, and it shows. The hotel is a beautiful Victorian masterpiece with barrel vaulted ceilings. My room was on the 5th floor and overlooked the lobby. The room itself was very comfortable with very high ceilings. The windows in the room were equally large and very extravagant looking. The bed had more pillows than I knew what to do with. The bed was exceptionally comfortable with down comforter and a pillow-top mattress. My only complaint was that there was a railroad nearby (this used to be a train station after all) and that the public parking lot looked quite dilapidated and was quite expensive (though the public parking isn't solely for the hotel). However, valet parking was available for a reasonable price.

Too pricey

The price of the room did not correlate with the quality of the room. The rooms above ground were nice, but the rooms below ground should not be pricey. After upgrading to a room above ground, I much more satisfy.

Overall Good

The only problem that we had was the TV would go in and out. Other than that very nice.

Beautiful hotel, needs improvement

Stunningly beautiful historic hotel. The room was also very attractive and comfortable. The housekeeping was simply unacceptable (how about waiting in the lobby until 9:30 p.m. for clean towels and sheets?). Terrific restaurant and lounge but the A/C was set so high that the environment was nearly intolerable. They played music in the lobby 24 hours a day. In order to sleep, we had to make a nightly call to the front desk to ask them to lower the volume. The wireless never worked. They brought a cable to connect but both this and the wireless were $9.99 a day to connect. And, the morning delivery of USA Today was $.75. The staff was magnificent and tried their best to fix problems. I think there is a management problem.

Beautiful history, need improvement

The hotel is stunning. The staff is courteous, personalble and makes the visit worthwhile. Here are the issues: We had issues with housekeeping everyday. The culmination was the evening that we had to sit in the lobby until 9:30 p.m. until the beds were made and clean towels were provided. The room make-up was always late and never complete. Clean glasses were never provided. In room coffee service was never replenished. Unbelievable for a 4 star hotel. Did I mention the mold growing in the grout of the shower/bathtub? The wireless service advertised never worked. They provided a cable to plug into the outlet. The charge was $9.99 per 24 hours of access. You have to be kidding me. The most annoying part of the 7 day stay was the music they played all day. The volume was truly unbearable and made sleeping after 11 p.m. all but impossible. A call to the front desk caused them to lower the volume but by 6 a.m. the music started again at full volume. The air conditioning in the restaurant (truly wonderful food) made it almost impossible to dine in comfort. The same was true of the lounge. Finally, the ice machine on our floor was non functional after the 1st day. This sound like a small thing but there was never any attempt to repair the machine in 6 days. I think the failure is in management and that overall the hotel would be wonderful if the numerous small items were addressed. All told, it is shame this fabulous historic hotel is not being cared for as it should be.

Great Expectations...oh well.

This is a very nice, clean comfortable hotel, that being said, it is priced far higher than comparable hotels at which I have stayed. The staff are courteous and helpful, but no more so than at hotels that are far more reasonably priced. The location is central to all Nashville has to offer, but there are several more affordable hotels within easy walking distance. The only reason I can find for the price disparity is the ornate historic property, which is lovely, but not so much so as to account for the outrageous prices. Before you stay here be sure you understand bellhops, vallet service, doormen, maid service, room service, consierge services, and the art of tipping. Regardless of what you read elsewhere, if train noise bothers you, avoid this hotel. There is no way to escape the train noise regardless of where in the hotel your room is. I was not bothered by the noise, but I was aware of it, and can imaging it would be quite unsettling to those who are unaccustomed to city noise. The restaraunt on the site, The 108 is outstanding. The 108 is well worth the extra expense if only to escape the local "feed lots" and enjoy food prepared and served as it should be. I rank it among the top 10 restaraunt experiences I have had. A very pleasant surprise. The valet service is above par. The valet was knowlegable, prompt and friendly, and treated my car with professionalism.
