upper east side hide out

This hotel was all about location. The upper east side is quite nice. The surrey is perfect for anyone who likes to visit museums, central park and visit high-end boutiques. But if plush rooms are what you need, forget about it! It was basicly clean but it is very old and in need of remolding. I would stay again maybe but I wouldn't recomemmed it to my friends.

Rooms are spacious

Surrey Hotel is just a block from Central Park - my husband and I got to run the tracks and enjoy that view of the city by walking just a few steps. We were quite far from the excitement of midtown but the subway was easily accessible to get there.

loved it!!!

I have stayed in plenty of hotels but this was the easiest check in/ check out I have ever had. With the great rate I got for the room, I was a little worried that it would be less than stellar but I was wrong! The rooms are big and so is the bathroom. It even has decent water pressure! and the mini refrig leaves you plenty of room to buy your own supplies. There was a paper at the door in the morning and the room was very clean and stocked. It came with 3 closets if you have a more extended stay. The staff was friendly and it is literally beside the Whitney museum, a block from the Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park, 2 from the #6 train and 2 from the Met. Even being close to everything it was on a quieter street so you did not get all the outside noise when trying to sleep.

Very nice place

This is a wonderful little hotel, on the trendy Upper East Side, catty-corner from the Carlyle and across the street from a Michael Kors store. The neighborhood is residential and professional offices and quite pleasant. I felt very safe. There is a fantastic breakfast/lunch place, Three Brothers, just around the corner. The only drawback was location relative subway: I am a NYC regular and rely on the trains. The hotel is a short walk to the 77th St. station but it is only serviced by the 6 train; for more choices one has to walk to 86th Street, a bit of a trek. There is not much nightlife in the area either. I would stay again.

Great Location

The Surrey Hotel was clean, staff very accomadating, bed really comfortable, and the location was central (20 East 76th Street) to many of the sites we intended to visit for an extended weekend. Central Park was a block and a half away, the Metropolitan Museum, Guggenheim and Whitney Museums were within 15 minutes of the hotel. Public transportation to the financial district, China Town and Little Italy were a short walk away (Lexington and 77 Street). An excellent location with comfortable room and a very fine staff made this a great NYC weekend.

WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!

If I had filled out this survey immediately after my stay, it would have sounded quite different. While our car was "valet parked" we received a parking ticket for being parked on the street. In other words, the staff parked my car on the street for free and charged me about $50 to valet it. It took several weeks for the management to agree to pay the ticket. The first manager I spoke to didn't return my call, claimed she lost my phone number and ultimately denied responsiblilty for the ticket. Her supervisor finally agreed to pay the fine after many more calls. I have not yet received any proof that it has actually been paid. I will never stay here again.

Fantastico

The Surrey Suite Hotel was marvelous. It is in a great location (couple blocks from the 77th St Subway stop, Central Park, and the Metropolitan). The hotel staff was friendly and ensured that my guest and I were comfortable at all times. The rooms are huge for NYC standards and priced very competitively. Great stay.

Outstanding Hotel

Too bad it's closing for renovations that will cut the suites in one half. No more suites, just bedrooms. If you can catch the hotel before it closes, do so.

Good UES Family hotel

Very close to Central Park & within 2 blocks of the subway & a grocery store. Large rooms with kitchenette make this ideal for families. We stayed there with our 3 kids and will definitely come back.

Outstanding Hotel

This hotel is great. Although we originally thought it was a little out of the way, there is actually a subway stop only 3 blocks from the hotel. The staff was exceptional and extremely helpful. Our room was beautiful and the neighborhood is very quiet and safe. We will definitely be staying here again.
