Trip Type: Special Event Review 19 of 175Overall, a nice experience
I would recommend not visiting the roof on Fridays and Saturdays...unless you like a crazy guido party. (sorry if that sounds mean) We visited the roof on a Monday around 5pm and it was peaceful and there was a great view of the city. Very nice. Our room was simple and comfortable. The carpet looked like it was newly put in.

Trip Type: Romance Review 20 of 175Decent Hotel - Nice Atmosphere - Polite Employees
The Hotel is very nice. The room (Medium) was fairly basic but decent. My husband was a fan of the peek-a-boo shower. It is not the hotel's fault but there is a lot of construction going on outside on the streets at night & it can be pretty disruptive when trucks are driving down the street all night & beeping, etc. The bar was fun - we only stayed for a few minutes as it was pretty expensive to drink there. We ended up across the street at The Library Bar which is much more laid back & the drinks are much more affordable. The staff at the hotel were helpful. The valets were a little crazy - plus parking is a bit difficult to find if you're not familiar with the area. One reviewer noted you had to do Valet & pay the $30 for it - that is not true. If you are not planning to take your car in/out a bunch, there are plenty of downtown lots that are cheaper. There is even one connected to the back side of the Standard that is less. We found the valet helpful as we took our car in/out a few times during our short stay. I would recommend this hotel to others but definitely bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 21 of 175Just wasn't really clean
This was fun hotel. The pool, bars and lounges we're all very nice. The vibe of the rooms and hallways was very college dormitory-like. My primary concern was the feeling of my room not being quite as clean as it should be. The grout was dirty and there were rust stains in the tub. I would probably not stay there again, but I would visit for the pool and bars.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 23 of 175Don't Believe The Hype
The rooms are not meant for comfort. The low bed and even lower tv were far from meeting "the standard" expectations. The room furnishings were less than maintained. The prices were outrageous for the quality of room and service. The desk personnel were far from friendly and inviting. The only interesting feature was the roof lounge. I have to say that was an amazing feature.

Trip Type: Business Review 25 of 175The Beautiful and the Noisy
We found the staff of the hotel completely responsive to our every request. The room is large and the bath is amazing. But there are no drawers anywhere in the room. Also the bed is a foam slab, which is not the most comfortable choice. I have been staying at hotels with pillow-top mattresses, which I much prefer. The pool area and bar are fun, if a little too hip for our taste. We did not eat anything at the hotel so I can't speak to the food. It was mostly quiet but you could hear EVERY door shut anywhere nearby (and that is easily remedied, so they should fix it.) On Friday, it was very noisy, with talking and doors slamming late into the night. We had asked for a room in the quiet section. If this was the quiet part, I can't imagine what the noisy part was like! Also, this is a smoking hotel and you can smell it everywhere, even in the supposedly non-smoking rooms.

Trip Type: Business Review 26 of 175Party Hotel
Great hotel if you love to party. Lobby feels like a club, with dark lighting, DJ, and always party people hanging about at night trying to get to the rooftop pool parties. Parking is a bit difficult as they share their lot with a public lot. Standard rooms are very small and basic. We had an "extra large" room and were fine with the size but zero closet space and no drawers anywhere to put things out of sight. Didn't like that dirty glasses were left in hallways for 2 days. But although hotel feels like a club, we didn't hear noise at all in our room.

Trip Type: Romance Review 27 of 175Not so great for the money
This hotel is expensive for what it is worth. We booked an extra large room and was upgraded to a gigantic room because it was not available. Wouldn't say the larger rooms are worth it but we stayed in a medium room too, which was worth what the price was. The roof top bar/pool is nice. This hotel is not all it is hyped up to be but is decent overall and is a hotel you should only stay at once to see how it is.

Trip Type: Business Review 28 of 175Hotel was above Standard, door man needs people skills!
I sincerely enjoyed my stay. The hotel was decorated very well and quite comfortable. In general, the staff was very nice and accommodating. Though there was no coffee in the room, room service would have it to me in about five minutes. I do wish they had a full size ironing board, but I made do. In general, everything was well done and I enjoyed evenings on the roof top bar every night. However, the door man, excuse me, "door boy" Devon has a lot to learn about working with people. A door man like him belongs at some posh late night bar somewhere, not a place like The Standard that has business people staying there who expect more quality and aren't looking to start a fight. Suffice to say, that if you are looking for evening locations to take clients on a Tuesday night, evidently The Standard is too busy to allow the folks staying there to bring more than one person upstairs... and Devon will tell you in very rude terms.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 30 of 175Watch Out For Extra Charges Not Explained on Website
The hotel certainly does provide a classic retro feel from the moment you walk in the door. But like true L.A. fashion, they require your car to be valet parked, which is a rather expensive charge not clearly explained on the hotels.com website, the charge for parking PER DAY is $30.00 plus tax, a complete rip-off. That alone will surely turn your mood sour if you are not prepared. When we finally got to the room, we were upgraded to a "huge" room from the "extra-large" room we reserved online. A nice sized room for two people, but didn't stay in it long as the rooftop lounge and bar was calling our name. After getting settled, we headed up top to a great rendezvous straight out of the 70's. Drinks were pricey but that is to be expected. Even the bathrooms were original in style! Overall, this hotel is a nice place to stay, but you better come prepared to spend money. Also, go to the library bar directly diagonal to the hotel - great place with fairly priced drinks.
