The Langham, Auckland

Location. Guests entering the arresting gold-leaf-domed lobby of the The Langham Hotel Auckland, New Zealand, may not be surprised to learn that this property is registered with The Leading Hotels of the World. The hotel is located in downtown Auckland four blocks from the Auckland Domain, Auckland's largest urban green space, which houses the Auckland Museum. Raj's vision favors unabashed opulence, rich textures and warm colors. Specific examples of the hotel's mannered "maximalism" include the winery's coffered ceiling and chandeliers. Guestrooms include dramatic burr walnut bed headboards, floor-to-ceiling drapes, antique-styled furniture and lights, rich bedding and scented pillows in Egyptian linens. The hotel was built in 1983 and the refurbishment was based on The Langham’s original grand hotel, The Langham, London, born in 1865. The Raj Design group trawled the history books in order to interpret late Nineteenth Century decorative styles with modern materials.
