Great room for money, but

This was a nice resort. They only problem is there was 5 of us in a two bedroom unit that had only one bathroom. They told us on check out that they had units with two bathrooms. Would stay again.

Beautiful Hotel

The Lakes was very impressive. The grounds are far more attractive than the pictures showed them to be. We stayed at the hotel twice during our trip to Australia -- the second time we had a nicer room on the 2nd floor with a beautiful enclosed patio overlooking the pool. We had 5 of us in a 2 bedroom suite (3 adults and 2 kids) which was more than enough room -- it would have been nice to have 2 bathrooms, but it served our purposes well and the hotel provided a roll-away bed that was comfy and clean for my youngest son. The "spa pool" was luke-warm and we were a little disappointed not to have a hot tub, but it was a minor thing given how wonderful the rest of the hotel was. We were there in July so the pools were a bit chilly for swimming but we did it anyway. The hotel location is good as well since it is close to the airport and easy to get in/out of with a rental car. It isn't close to downtown, but we didn't spend much time downtown so that didn't bother us. The front desk was great and very helpful -- with internet service and a nice store with cereal, milk, and basic staples to save you the need for a trip to the store.

Great Resort

The Lakes was a great resort. The location was a little far from downtown Cairns, but the resort offers a bus that will take you back and forth all day for $7. The service ends around 7pm. However, there is a public transportation bus stop just outside the resort and the 1X line will take you into town for about $2. Otherwise, it is a beautiful resort.

Great hotel/apartment, a bit out of Cairnes

The accomodations for "The Lakes" was very modern, clean, and comfortable. The room was very large and all appliances (range, oven, dishwasher, laundry)were brand new. This is a great spot to stay if you want to save some money and cook in your room. The only downfall is that it is a bit far from central Cairnes (where the shopping and restaurants are). We walked it in just short of an hour. They run a shuttle service ($7/day), but it only runs until 6:00pm. After this, a cab would be required.
