Funky motel with small rooms

Room size is never a priority for me. Good thing, because the room was SMALL. But the hotel's web site said as much. I never had to wait to use the bathroom or shower, and had no problems. Great location near Union Square, lots of restaurants to choose from. Will definitely stay there again!

good place for the money

The Jane is good if you just need a safe comfortable clean place to spend the night in the city. Great value for the money...space in the room is small but it is great for just spending the night.

A Great Hole in the Wall

Perfect little hotel in great area! The rooms are small but perfect for a single person who just needs the room to sleep. It was a little different with the community bathroom, but everyone was very respectful. The rooms were clean and so were the bathrooms. The hand run elevators are very neat and old fashion to go along with the style of the hotel. However they were not operating at all times. So prepare to use the stairs. The area was pretty quite at night. The hotel had awesome parties in their new bar/lounge area. There were a lot of people trying to get into the hotel for the "club" scene there, which made it a little hard to get into the hotel. But once i was in, i went straight to the bar and enjoyed my night. Overall for the price, the Hotel is very convenient and right in the hotspots of the meatpacking district.

The Jane Hotel is great economic choice in NYC

I went in with my eyes wide open: rooms are small and you share the bathrooms and showers, so take your flip flops. For me, this was not an issue. The hotel location is great -- close to lots of restaurants, bars and easy access to the subway.

Clean room, comfortable bed,

The value of the hotel was very good. Location a bit of a hike to get to the L,but a short cab ride away. WHile the hotel may be inexpensive, restaurants are jsut the opposite. We thought Mexican would be a reasonably priced food choice til we saw $25 quesadillas on the menu - ouch. We went to a Thai place for dinner called SEA where prices were reasonable. I found the beds to be quite comfortable as were the pillow and the sheets just as nice as anything you would find at the Hilton. Im pretty lean so I don't require a lot of space and found the beds to be ample size for one. 2 would be a stretch and not as comfortable but doable. I was disappointed to see a cockroach but I may have contributed to its appearance by leaving a half eaten burger (though it was in the styrofoam container) in the room that night. It was real quiet on the floor I stayed on and you'd think it was a Monday night, but this was a Friday night. Bathrooms were very clean also. Rooms, while warm upon entering did cool off quickly when you inserted the electricity key, which I think is a great idea. I also liked the toilet conservation mechanism, with 2 flush options. While the hotel rates are very reasonable, don't expect the lounge to be reasonable. For a rum and coke and a glass of champagne (we didn't even request a brand) it was $31!!! That's high even for NY standards. Also, that didn't even get you a seat anywhere as all the seating spots were reserved which I thought was very uncool, especially with what they charge for drink prices. We decided to go to a venue where there was a better atmosphere & better drink prices(The Park).

What a throwback this place is! And a great concept for the "minimilist" traveler. Very clean, convenient and perhaps the best deal in NYC.

A comfy ship cabin in Manhattan

I was very pleasantly surprised that the room actually seemed larger in person than in the pictures and it had a great utilization of space with both under and over bed storage as well as hooks on three of four walls to hang things on, not to mention the shelving at the foot of the bed. Designed like a ships cabin I certainly wouldn't have minded heading to to sea in this room for a couple of weeks. The TV and AC(discreetly hidden behind a grill)both were controlled via remote so you didn't have to move to change the channel or temperature in the room. The bathrooms were very clean and you can't beat rainfall showers. The bathrobe in the room is a nice/practical touch for your trips to the bathroom. One big surprise during my stay, coming back to the hotel late Friday night and seeing a long line outside. Turns out the bar/nightclub in the old two-story ballroom is quite popular...and no waiting in line for hotel guests. With all the nightlife downstairs, upstairs was still very quiet. I look forward to staying here again, soon.

Great Host Hotel

I wanted an affordable hotel since I only planned to stay overnight in NYC and I doubted I would spend much time at the hotel. The Jane Hotel fit the bill because it was not only affordable, but the staff was very accommodating. Since, I arrived at The Jane several hours before check in, I was able to observe the courteous manner in which the staff checked out guests and delt with problems that arose in a few rooms. Upon my request, the staff stored my baggage so I could travel around the city unburdened. Although I initially arrived at 11 a.m., I did not check in until 11 p.m. and the staff was fine with my late arrival. I had the smallest room available which was just fine, since I spent a total of 4 hours there anyway. The room was very comfortable except for being a little warm since energy saving methods require you to stay in the room in order for the air conditioner to work. One of the showers in the 4th floor bathroom drained slower that I would have liked, but I worked around that. Overall, my stay was excellent and I would happily stay at the Jane Hotel again.
