Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 700Great Staff
Every one of the staff was friendly and helpful. You would make Leonna proud! This is the first hotel that has not charged extra for our dog. Thank you for that. The room was some what worn but it was clean and comfortable. We would go back. The location can't be beat.

Excellent location. I have stayed here twice in the past year. Both rooms were spacious by NYC standards and well maintained. Decor is classic, a bit old-fashioned but in good taste. Bathrooms also were large but do not appear to have been renovated recently. First hotel room included mini refrigerator in the bathroom. On second visit I asked about refrigerator and was told hotel would provide one free of charge.

The hotel is grossly overpriced for the quality. The room was shabby. The bed was horrifically uncomfortable. The pillows were uncomfortable, and the mattress had no cushion. You could feel the springs digging into your back all night. We tossed and turned all night -- unable to sleep. The bathroom also was bad. It smelled like mildew. The tub flooded when you took a shower. The toilet ran, and the the hair dryer was a cheap, low wattage version, which took forever to dry your hair. In short, we were beyond upset at what we paid for this room. The staff were friendly and the location was perfect, but I would never stay at this hotel again.

Nice location but rooms need renovating. Apparently above the 40th floor renovations have been done but our room was a very disappointing for the unreasonably high price.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 6 of 700Nice Hotel
I found my room to be nice, but is starting to show its wear. Bed was very comfortable and flat screen tv was nice, but room was poorly lit. There were few outlets to plug in for cell phone. Shower curtain was too small for the shower. For the price. Staff was very friendly and let me check out late, which was great. Doorman stood outside in pouring rain and flagged down a cab for me. Overall, was satisfied and would recommend it. Good value for the price in NYC.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 8 of 700Great place!
I have stayed at this hotel several times. The location is awesome--right across from Central Park! Rooms are always great. Have never had any problems with anything. Highly recommend!

A classic New York City hotel with a second-to-none location, but badly in need of a renovation. My room had leaking plumbing, peeling wallpaper, and was not what I expected of a one first class hotel.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 700Great Room For the Money - nice hotel
I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It has not been updated probably since the 60’s but it was very clean, the staff was helpful, hallways were well lighted, the view of central park from our room was breathtaking, and the room and bathroom were very spacious. It is just far enough out of time square but still within walking distance to all the shows. I liked the 60’s décor because I love old movies and it felt like I was in a Doris Day/Rock Hudson movie.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 12 of 700Very nice, but...
The hotel is very nice with very attentive service and a great location. My only complaint was the comfort of the mattress. The mattress was stiff, lumpy, with very little padding, very uncomfortable. The quality of the mattress was what I would expect in a cheap motel, not a four/five star hotel like the Park Lane.

Trip Type: Business Review 13 of 700Needs Updating & Better Customer Service
I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past couple of years. The hotel was having some maintenance performed on the facade and for two of the days, I was literally driven out of the room as a result of the deafening noise. When I called the front desk to inquire about the length of time this noise would continue, they informed me just five minutes. It actually continued for at least another twenty minutes before I had to leave for fear of hearing loss. This is not a joke. When I discussed it with the hotel manager, he was very dismissive of the situation and said there was nothing he could do about it. I had asked to be moved to a room on the other side of the hotel that did not have any construction, but he just brushed off my request. The next morning it continued at 8;30 am and I checked out of the hotel after a discussion in which the manager once again was not sensitive to my complaints. I paid for a room for which I was not able to use for about 1/3 of my stay. In addition, the hotel has become somewhat shabby and is in need a a major renovation. Beware of the staff and their lack of service to the guests. Upon check out, there were several guests voicing their anger with the unbearable noise.

Trip Type: Business Review 14 of 700BEWARE
The hotel property is delapidated. Apparently awaiting demolition or a substantial rebuild. Decor is "unwashed high tacky". My room's carpet had not been swept or cleaned, the bathroom was filthy. The chamber maid started knocking at the door at 8 am to wake up all the guests on the floor driving them from the hotel. I gladly left.

Trip Type: Family Review 15 of 700Excellent venue. Great location
The Helmsley Park Lane delivers in comfort and little details that indicate style and refinement. It truly is in a great location, across from Central park South and is a few minutes away from shopping and the theater district. An added bonus is the availablity of the Subway entrance. The room price can be off-putting and the parking, if you drive, can be a shock. The biggest draw back is lack of internet service in the rooms. If you are doing research on what to do, complete is before you leave home.
