Trip Type: Special Event Review 3 of 40One of the best hotels in NY
The rooms at the Carlyle are just lovely - plenty of room, big closets, clean and classy. The hotel also serves as residences for many people, so it has a homey vibe to it. very comfortable. The neighborhood is upper east side Madison Avenue. Premium locale. Only complaint is the ridiculously high prices for the room service. $14 for a pot of coffee. that has to be a record. The coffee was good but not that good. Cafe Carlyle is nice but service is interminably slooooow.

The trouble with the Carlyle is that once you have stayed there you don't want to stay anyplace else. The only reason we could afford it was because of the reduced rate during an economic downturn. Nonetheless, the opportunity to experience the high level of comfort and luxury that is standard at the Carlyle along with the atmosphere developed over about eighty years of serving a clientele accustomed to sophisticated pampering was too good to miss.

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 40Our home away from home
The Carlyle is the favorite for my wife and me when we stay in Manhattan. The staff is extremely friendly and professional and the Upper East Side Location is unequaled for access to some of the finest Manhattan has to offer, i.e. restaurants, museums, shopping, Central Park, etc. The hotels restaurant, bar and the Cafe Carlyle should also be experienced at least once. We consider it our home away from home. That being said, like anyone's home, the Carlyle is not for everyone. It is older and although every effort has been made to modernize it is still a modernization of an older edifice and therefore can be a little quirky. If you love the place and the staff as we do, then you find the quirks endearing...if not then they may be annoying, and no one wants to pay the Carlyle's tariff to be annoyed.

This is one of most charming hotels we have stayed at during our travels. The staff was fantastic and we were made to feel very comfortable. This hotel is perfect for those looking to relax and enjoy a most upscale neighborhood and environment.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 9 of 40Very nice hotel
The Carlyle is a lovely, well-kept old hotel. The service is wonderful. Rooms are nice, clean and well decorated. It is pretty expensive-especially the bar- but an overall delightful experience.

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 40great new york experience
The Carlyle Hotel provided good service, was in a wonderful location--close to Central Park and art museums--but far enough from the noise and confusion of midtown Manhattan. The dining room service and food was what one would expect from a fine hotel, and then some. I hope to stay there on my next visit to New York.
