This Federal-style home, built in 1834, features gardens with a 140-year-old magnolia tree and a patio. Complimentary full breakfasts featuring fruit smoothies, a fruit course, freshly baked muffins, and entrees such as garden stratas and French toast, are served each morning by candlelight in the dining room or on the patio. Dishes are made with fresh herbs from the inn's garden, vegetables and fruit from area farmers markets, and bacon and sausages from the local butcher. A guest refrigerator stocked with soft drinks and bottled water, and a microwave oven are located on the first floor. Homemade cookies or sweets are served each evening. The library offers a guest computer, a collection of books, and fax and photocopy services. A parlor offers another spot for guests to relax. Concierge services are available at the inn. Pets are not allowed at the property. Guestrooms. The Beechmont offers seven guestrooms with private bathrooms and bathrobes. All rooms feature cable television, reading chairs, telephones and complimentary wireless Internet access. Select rooms offer cast-iron stoves or a marble fireplace with gas logs and mini fridges. The second-floor Arbor View Suite features a private staircase to a small porch with wicker furniture and a view of the magnolia tree. This suite also offers a sitting room with a sofa bed, fully equipped kitchen and cast-iron stove with gas logs. Expert Tip. In 1863, a clash between Confederate soldiers under the leadership of General Jeb Stuart and Federal troops led by Generals Kilpatrick and Custer took place in Hanover. Historians note the clash in Hanover, the site of the first battle on free soil, prevented the Confederates from reaching the Battle of Gettysburg, 14 miles away, until the third day of the battle.
