    There were weeds growing all along the front of the hotel along with pots of neglected and dying flowers. My husband was locked out of the hotel for close to an hour early in the morning when he went to get something out of our car. When we first arrived, the front desk staff were extremely unfriendly and acted as if we were interrupting their conversation. The room was very small, and the bed was so lumpy we both woke up with back aches. But the breakfast was delicious! Also, the waitresses in the restaurant were very friendly and professional.

The Afton House Inn is located in Afton, Minn., less than 500 ft from the shore of the St. Croix River. Less than 16 miles from the property are the Wabasha Street Caves in St. Paul, Minn., which are known for their history with mobsters and bootlegging back in the 1920's and 1930's. The Mall of America, the largest mall in the United States, is less than 23 miles from the property and features an indoor amusement park.

This New England clapboard inn features dining in the Wheel Room, the Pennington Room and the Catfish Saloon & Cafe.
