Hotels.com: Super 8 Berkeley, Berkeley, CA

When I first arrived I shook my head and asked why did I, but when I entered my room I was VERY IMPRESSED with the condition. Big bed with very high quality thread count sheets (very soft) and big fluffy pillows. There was a flat screen LCD TV mounted on wall and the bathroom was all granite counter tops and shower with a spotless glass shower door and granite looking (tile) bathroom flooring. Although the room itself was very small but I dealt with it for three nights on my stay since the room had a brand new frig and microwave. The Wi-Fi high speed internet had a great connection and free.

It's my impression that all the motels lining University Avenue are relics from the 1950's. The room interiors of this motel were renovated in August 2009. New carpet, bathroom tile floor, shower stall, bath fixtures, furnishings, etc. The wall-mounted flat-screen TV frees up space for the refrigerator and microwave. The free WiFi worked fine. I arrived late, and the kid working the desk moved his car to free up a parking space for me. The free breakfast is basic. Hey, this is not a five-star in Maui. It's located in Berkeley, a run-down socialist garbage dump. I'll stay here on my next visit.

This hotel really exceeded our expectations for the price we paid. Each room had a microwave, refrigerator and large flat screen TV. The hotel has just been renovated under new ownership. The manager was friendly and helpful. The free breakfast buffet was very basic: breads, cereals, fruit and juices, but it was fresh. We chose this hotel because it was walking distance from the Downtown Berkeley BART and UC Berkeley. It was, maybe about ten minutes to BART. Many restaurants within walking distance. We would certainly stay here again. It is an older hotel, so you might hear noise from the parking area outside the door, or from upstairs if you're downstairs.

BAD service

The man behind the front desk was not nice at all! He was rude and did not demonstrate professionalism from the moment I checked in. That alone made me uncomfortable staying there. The room was well kept and just what I needed for my stay unfortunately the customer service was awful and made me never want to stay there again.

This is an older property that is now under the Super 8 banner. The change was made only a couple of weeks ago and the new signage is not yet in place. Although it is a small, old fashioned property, the rooms have been refurbished with plasma screen TV, WIFI, new bathrooms, etc. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The 'fridge and microwave were an added bonus - but all rooms seem to have them!! It is on University Avenue and it is an urban property, but its proximity to the UC campus is a plus. It is a true gem for value and I'll be returning.
