Trip Type: Family Review 16 of 213Great Location
Staff was friendly - desk clerks very helpful. Room was spotless! Each day the room was picked up and new towels brought in. Spent four nights - no complaints!

Trip Type: Romance Review 17 of 213Classic Studio City hotel.
The style is something furniture buffs and classic movie fans will adore. My wife and I loved the pool-side bar and went for a swim in the signature Sportman's Lodge pool. While we were there, we saw the cast of a very popular network TV show. We also had the opportunity to eat breakfast at the hotel restaurant, which was very tasty. Although the technology at the hotel itself is not state-of-the-art and it is rather dimly-lit in spots, it does take you back about 40 or 50 years and has an overall nostalgic atmosphere. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give The Sportsman's Lodge an 8.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 19 of 213Great Room for the Money
The hotel was a good choice for the money. The only exception was that we had to call several times for room service (i.e. need more towels: called three times). I expect they were busy as there were 3 weddings the week we stayed. The pool was very nice, however, I learned from a person that was there that they let anyone in even if they are not staying there to use the pool area. This makes it difficult to get a chair beside the pool on the weekend. Everyone including the guests were very friendly. The staff were very accommodating with the exception of having to call several times for items needed in the room. I would definitely stay again if I ever get back that way.

Trip Type: Family Review 20 of 213A Down-to-Earth Fine Place to Stay
If you take a composite index of the hotel's convenient location (near all kinds of stores for a sandwich, a special meal, or some personal item you need, or whatever), accessible to all roads to get where you need to go each day, the fine staff and the functional, clean, good facilities, and price, you come up with this hotel at the top of the ranking. The pool is great, their breakfast patio coffee shop is fine, the room is nice and clean, the halls are clean and quiet, and everything is just what anyone could want--especially if you are not prepared to pay umpteen hundreds of dollars per day for a room. I will definitely be booking my rooms at this place every future trip I take to LA (and since my son and his family live there, it should be reasonably often that I will do so).

Trip Type: Family Review 23 of 213Need to clean better
Our 11month old daughter found a low dose aspirin by the bed...not ours...on the 1st day, so we were not happy. I called the front desk and they send a person to vacuum again but I was still uneasy and felt the overall cleanliness was horrible...our daughters feet were also black on the tops when we let her crawl on the floor in the room.

Trip Type: Family Review 25 of 213Enjoyable Stay
We were very satisfied with our recent stay at the Sportmen's Lodge. It's very centrally located to all the major attractions with convenient stops for public transportation. The room was quite comfortable. The kids enjoyed the pool every night. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only thing we were not aware of until we checked out was that although they offer WiFi, it is not free! Overall, great stay!

Trip Type: Family Review 26 of 213Great staff and food in a shabby-chic and run-down setting
While the staff is outstanding and the food at the little restaurant was excellent, the physical plant is pretty shabby, out-of-date, and run down. The exception - a lovely, large, old-style swimmming pool and beautiful surrounding trees and landscaping. This almost made up for the paper-thin walls, stained and worn-out carpet, and decor in serious need of upgrading. I'd probably stay here again because of the very convenient central location and shabby-chic "charm", but be prepared to switch rooms several times to find one that's marginally acceptable.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 27 of 213Reasonable value & convenient Universal Studios Shuttle
We spent three nights at Sportsman's Lodge in mid-July. Hotels.com saved us about 20% vs direct with hotel. The place is a bit long in the tooth but our room was clean, the bed was comfortable and fairly quiet (noise from poolside entertainment past the posted 9pm limit was somewhat annoying). We picked the place primarily because it was a bargain relative to competition offering Universal Studios shuttles. The Shuttle service was great, but last ride back picked up at 7:30; 9 would have been nice. We had 2 day Universal passes and were TIRED, so used room service: Good food, reasonably priced and arrived within 20 minutes. Every employee of Sportsman's was friendly & helpful...can't say that for many hotels!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 28 of 213Outstanding Hotel
This hotel was a surprise gem. The room was extremely spacious and clean. The staff was helpful and our needs and requests were met quickly. Great pool area. Be aware that weekend nights live music is featured so don't plan on turning in early. I found this to be an added bonus. The hotel offered free a shuttle to Universal Studios. Definitely will return again.
