The hostel is not as clean and as neat as it appears on the advertising page. I have stayed in quite a few hostels in New York and this one would be at the bottom of the scale with respect to quality of amenity provided.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 64This hotel is fine
Some comments were saying this hostel looks like a refugee camp. In a way, it is true, the bathroom is creepy, there are no trash can in the rooms but the comfort is fine, you can definitely meet young people from the whole world, the hotel is well-located (two steps from the metro to take u downtown). I do think that young people who need at least a bed and a roof, this is perfect !!

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 6 of 64A nice room and a nice location, and that's about it
You are not going to get extras at the sky hostel, but for the price, can't beat it.. clean rooms, nice staff, bathrooms can definitely use some work, they are very small, and be prepare to climb stairs!

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 8 of 64A very interesting and unique experience.
The people I met there were all really nice. It is inexpensive and in a decent location. The rooms are not that great, but hey, you get what you pay for. And in any case, you will probably only return there to sleep and shower. (the bathrooms are really small though. and ppl dont keep them that clean) but over all, it was an ok visit. not that bad at all.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 64Great value, clean sheets, cold airconditioning, clean bathrooms
The sheets were clean. Only 4 people per room. The shared bathrooms were clean and kept up by staff. The air conditioning was cold (not available in all rooms). If you need a place to sleep in a safe neighborhood in Manhattan, you can't beat this deal. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 64well, it *is* a hostel
The building is old, and even a nice, (also garish sometimes) paint job can't hide that. The stairs up to the 1st floor were uneven and prone to tripping people. The stairs to the basement were frighteningly steep. The staff was polite but infexible about check-in/out times. The room was small but just fine. It was very clean and the IKEA light cover was adorable. There was an inconveniently placed bar in the center of the bunk bed. However, if you're in NYC and you're not falling into bed exhausted with everything you did that day, you're not doing it right! The bathrooms were immaculate and the showers blessedly hot even after the morning rush. It's a no-frills place but for the price and location, it's a total win.

If your looking for the barebones then this hostel is for you. the lounge and lockers are in the basement. the stairs to the basement are very narrow and curve sharply. It's a pain to carry bags up and down. there is no air conditioning. The hotel staff tends to be lazy and unhelpful. you can use the computers in the lounge but it's $2 every 20mins. The luggage lockers cost $5 for up to 24hrs but if you open it you'll need another $5 to lock it up again. there are about 30-40 beds per floor and only 2 bathrooms per floor. I would recomend either a different hostel or to stay in a cheap hotel in jersey and take the path train into NYC

Trip Type: Family Review 13 of 64Location Location Location
That is the best thing about this hotel. The rooms were moderately clean and extemely cramped, but that is not what you are paying for. The neighborhood is quiet and close to resturants, mass transit, Central Park and the Museums. When you travel to NYC there is too much to do, this hotel is great for spending all day out in the street then coming home, crashing in the lumpy bed for 7 hours, waking up and getting out to do more.

Trip Type: Romance Review 14 of 64Ok for what we paid
The bathroom was always clean. The location was great. It's close from the red line of subway, central park and brodway. The first room the gaved us was too small and we didin't have too much space for our luggage and walking, then we moved to a better and bigger room, with cute decoration and enough space to move.
