Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 1 of 698Fantastic Value and perfect location
The entry is fabulous and the staff are friendly. The hallway on the floor i stayed on smelled like old cigarettes which was unfortunately but my room was immaculate and comfortable (and best of all without cigarette stench). Ideal location for getting around

Trip Type: Romance Review 2 of 698It was good.
The first room was bad. Looked out the window and there was an AC unit looking back at me. Also the elevator was right next to the room. They did move me to another room, but charged me the same for a less room. Not happy with that. Overall, it was a good stay.

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 698Good location with lots of charm and character
Nice furnishings and comfortable beds. My room needed some attention to chipping paint and dirty grout in bathtub area. Bathroom mirror was wierd - super low and had you looking at your chest. Had to bend down to see your face. Toilet ran if you did not reset the tank each time you flushed it. Overall, the room was ok for the price but with a little maintenance could have been a better experience. Location is great. Scala's restaraunt is a must miss. Horrible service and food is mediocre at best. Penthouse lounge was fun in a cheesy way.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 698Well worth the money
First off, the Sir Francis Drake is in a great spot near Union Square and near all the high-end department stores and great restaurants and within walking distance of the metro, bart & street/cable car stops. The hotel itself is an old-world style in the mold of a European hotel but very sophisticated and well maintained. The rooms are a little small, but clean. I would recommend this hotel if you aren't wanting to spend $200+ per night for some of the surrounding hotels, but if you can, then I would. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 698Wonderful Location, Old School Hotel
We stayed for one night. The rooms are small, more European-sized, but very comfortable. Location is excellent.

From the doorman to the lobby, elevators and rooms you get an old world feel. I liked the uniqueness. The staff were friendly.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 698Great room for the money and location
We stayed at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel a few weeks ago and had a great time. The rooms aren't very big but we really did not spend much time in our room. The location was excellent and the restaurant Scala's was very good. We would definitely stay there again. Jackie

Trip Type: Romance Review 11 of 698Service and communication poor but good location for our visit
Problems: 1. This hotel offers services I would take advantage of, but they do not have an adequate way of making you aware of them until it's too late. 2. When asked upon checkout if everything was ok, I replied that we were never able to make the wifi work and never received call-back to phone inquiries. I was given a shrug and 'don't know why' response. Obvious lack of training or lack of concern. 3. Tub was in very poor condition. It looked so bad it was unsettling to get into it either for a shower or bath. If new tubs are out of the question, tub refinishing is very simple and relatively low cost. -Seems strange a hotel of this apparent sophistication would have such problems in these areas. Good points: We were there for a getaway and the location was excellent for doing the things we were there to do. Ruby Skye night club a block away, SFMOMA a short walk, Farmer's Market within walking distance...Scala restaurant was very good. Room was perfectly clean. Bed was very comfortable.

Trip Type: Romance Review 13 of 698Wouldn't want to get your hopes up
To start, the valet was unhelpful and the most expensive I have ever used. Upon entering the room, it was clear that no maid had visited; the front desk was very resistant to sending a maid up to have it taken care of. Also, I hope you aren't planning on using the internet because the advertised free wifi, well, isn't free at all. Oh, and if you plan on showering, better bring your own shampoo; none is provided. Don't plan on your in-room checkout working either. Upon checking out in the lobby, I was received by an unhelpful clerk who refused to ask me how my stay was. My answer would have been "A thoroughly bad experience."

Trip Type: Business Review 14 of 698Needs improvement
I booked Deluxe King Room but none were available. Top sheet had holes in it so they could use some new bedding. The room didn't have any wine glasses and it took almost an act of congress to get two. And we're in the Wine Country! Staff is extremely friendly and accomodating with their words, but they need to follow up with better service.
