Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 32Sheraton Rio August 2009
The Sheraton Rio is a beautiful facility, with the Atlantic on the front, and a mountain behind. Views are spectacular, and the staff is very helpful. Meals and internet are quite expensive; make sure your reservation includes breakfast. Only negative is that beach access is restricted after 6 PM during the winter season.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 32Good but expensive
Good hotel, the location is not the best, you need to grab a taxi to go anywhere. But the pool and the semiprivate beach area is very good. The restaurant is kind of expensive. You are better off getting a yellow cab (not the hotel cab) and going to a restaurant in the Ipanema or Leblon neighborhoods. You will eat better and cheaper.

Check in time is supposed to be in the afternoon but we arrived early at 11AM and they let us check in. Check out time is supposed to be at noon and our fly is at night so they extended 2 hours for us to check out at 2PM without charges. Staff is very nice, professional, helpful, and friendly.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 6 of 32Some things are just NOT worth waiting for
My friends and I waited almost two hours to be served at a restaurant across from the hotel pool, and even though the manager waived our meal costs due to the poor service, we experience similar treatment throughout our stay at the hotel.

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 32Best in Rio!
Our trip in Rio started at Pestana Rio Atlantica, however, me and my wife could stay there more than the first day and the next day moved into Caesar Park Ipanema. There we got the same dissapointment will low quality of service, rooms, amenities, etc. So, we had almost given up on Rio until we decided to move into Sheraton Rio Hotel. We got a complimentary upgrade with the ocean view at the checking. The bed was awesome. The pool, the bar, and overall everything left an excellent impression at this hotel. Very recommended.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 8 of 32Over priced view and name
This Sheraton presents a nice view of the ocean, but is grossly overpriced for that amenity. Food is particularly expensive, for example almost US$30 per person for breakfast in a city where most hotels have breakfast included in the nightly rate. Location is also a problem unless your intent is to spend all your time in Rio at the hotel. The hotel taxi costs about R$20 to the next neighborhood (Leblon), but a street taxi costs about R$7. Until I have money to burn, I will not stay at this Sheraton again.

There are many newer and cleaner hotels in the area for the same price.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 11 of 32Nothing Special
This was the third Sheraton we stayed at during our long trip to So. America; the hotel in Rio was very noisy. The breakfast buffet was not good; food was not appealing unless you liked fruit and there were different prices for different parts of the buffet which was very hard to understand. Also the cost of the buffet was very expensive.

Hotel is in beautiful location and in nice condition. Food and drinks are very expensive. Continental breakfast $21 USD each. Drinks at bar $11 USD each.

The room had a wonderful view of Leblon beach, Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf. What we like was the private location, sort of a retreat fom the busy day. The beach and pools are very nice, with easy access from the hotel elevator.

Trip Type: Family Review 14 of 32Beautiful hotel, but bring TONS of money with you to stay there
Hotel was beautiful, with great facilities, but it is located too far from the city. It is a far walk, along a highway, to reach either Leblon or Ipanema. This means that you will either have to take a bus or taxi ($8-10) whenever you want to leave the hotel. Sheraton takes advantage of this by gouging you on everything it offers. Breakfast is over $30 USD per person, lunch will cost you over $40 USD and dinner will run about $50. If you don't want to spend over $100 USD per day per person just to eat, you will be constantly taking taxis. This applies to drinks at the bar ($12 for a rum and coke!), the health club ($13 per day) etc.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 15 of 32Great Hotel
Of course the price was high, but it was Carnival in Rio and the staff were very helpful. My wife became ill the day we were to leave and they extended our check out to 4 PM, The consiege was very helpful with tours and transportation to the Samba parades. The people in the bar were wonderful allowing us to experiment with their local drinks. If I get back to Rio I will stay at the Rio Sheraton
