Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina

Excellent Value

My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon as the first stop in Australia and we both agree it was the best hotel value during our trip. The location allowed for easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and at the same time being centrally located in Cairns. On the plus side we stayed in the Horizon Club rooms that provide great value for the money. Rooms where well kept and were a good size with balcony overlooking the harbor. House keeping never intrusive but always kept the room in top condition. The Horizon club room also offers both a morning and early evening continental breakfast and Hors d'oeuvres at no extra cost. Provides a great place for meeting folks and sharing stories. The pool is another great option when you just want to get some downtime after you've hit the Great Barrier Reef. Not too crowded when we were there in September. On the negative side our room was on the opposite end of the hotel from the main lobby which gives you a fairly lengthy hike each day. I believe this contributed to slow room service on the few occassions that we called for anything. Overall, the experience was very positive and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a romantic get away in Cairns.

Nice hotel with great location

Right by the marina, next to down centre. Cairns is not a big town, and everything is within walking distance anyway. Has nice view if your room faces the ocean side or the lagoon. Lots of restaurants around, at the shopping centre connected the to hotel. Food is not bad. A lady in reception recommended a very good Jap restaurant in town, loved it!

Well Worth the Price

Not knowing a lot about the area, we splurged on this hotel for our stay in Cairns. Based on seeing other hotels in the area - we really lucked out as I feel it may be the best hotel in the area. Located where all the boats leave for scuba/snorkeling adventures - you are a close walk to the pier and strip of restaurants and the casino. They have numerous restaurants adjacent to the property as well as a small mall inside of it. The concierege was very helpful in booking all the adventures we wanted. And the water pressure in the shower is FANTASTIC. We went in Australia's winter - so only wish was that the pool was heated - but if you go to snorkel - the ocean is much warmer anyways.

Nice hotel

The hotel was nice, but I expected little bit more from it. We were luckily upgrated to a better, non smoking room with the view to the harbour. The bathroom were a bit shabby. Location was ok if you want to visit casino and go to the snorkelling trips because it´s next to the harbour. We just stayed for 1 night so it was okey for us.
