Decent budget-friendly hotel.

We recently made a last-minute trip to New Orleans to take our 11-month-old son to the Audubon Zoo and to take in a Halloween parade. We chose the Royal St. Charles for its location and price. The location is GREAT. Right next to the Quarter without being surrounded by tourists and revelers. Again, this was an impromptu trip so we checked in very late - approximately 11:30 pm. The front desk was very helpful on the phone as we were in route, assuring me that all would be fine. Upon arrival I BARELY fit our van into the tiny Valet parking area where I was eventually informed that our vehicle would have to remain on the curb until the morning as their lot was full. I didn't exactly relish the thought of our van sitting immediately outside the entrance to their nightclub, but so be it. The nightclub mentioned above can be an annoyance. It is open air to the lobby and the club music is pretty loud. Didn't bother us too much as our little one actually enjoyed the house mix. I can see how some might be annoyed, however. ROOM: The room was much larger than expected! We had an interior corner room that was oddly shaped, but had plenty of room for the travel crib. The major downside of this room was the lack of view. There was a "window" of glass "distortion" tiles (likely to hide a nasty view). There were other, minor issues with the room but no real show stoppers. The room was acceptably clean. There was a stain from a spilled drink (likely a Hurricane), but I personally know how difficult those red drink stains can be so no big deal. The lack of counter space in the bathroom was pretty inconvenient, but the lighted makeup mirror was appreciated by my wife. Overall this hotel was a good find considering our complete lack of planning and budget limitations at the time. Great location, minor wear and tear, friendly staff, and "happening" club are all hallmarks of the Royal St. Charles Hotel - one block off of Canal on St. Charles Ave. Can imagine this would be a great

Great location, nice place

Located near the French Quarter but in a quiet neighborhood. One of the most reasonably priced rooms available. Despite the low cost the room was very comfortable and exceeded expectations. At the time of our stay, parking was included, which is rare for hotels in the French Quarter. Normally parking is $26/night. If we had to pay this fee we likely would not have chosen this hotel. Also includes light breakfast (coffee and pastries), another rarity in the French Quarter. Would definitely stay here again.

Good loation but so-so accomodations

Great location if you want to be walking distance from the French Quarter. The rooms were tiny and don't have a fridge. They told me I had queen beds but they're definitely doubles. There's no room for a roll-away bed. Room service never replaced our coffee, shampoo, etc. Service at the front desk was slow and hard to get a hold of even when standing right at the desk (I never tried over the phone). So overall I wasn't impressed but for me, the trip was about seeing New Orleans and so for that purpose the hotel was an acceptable fit.

Great Rooms, poor service

The small, but comfortable rooms were great! The hotel is in the perfect location and has a great little lobby bar. However, ever interaction I had with the hotel staff was unpleasant. They were surly and unhelpful at every turn. I work in the service industry and I know things can get stressful and difficult at times, but for the price of the rooms, the service was sub-par! I've been treated better as a guest at a Motel 6.

Valet Service not to Responsible

We arrived on a rainy day and we allowed the Valet service to park/store our vehicle. Well, three days later while waiting for the service to return our vehicle, 45 minutes later, we were informed that the truck would not start because "someone" left the inigition switch on. Once the truck was started, I guess the mamager thought it would be a good idea to offer us a "free drink", duh... we are trying to get back on the road, plus, what do we want with a drink at 9:00 in the morning. Own the screw-up. If you parked the vehicle and we did not drive the truck for 3 days, who else could it have been that left the switch on? Also, there was no fridge there to keep medication (insulin) cold. Good thing the air conditioner worked (too good, either cold or colder)

Older Hotel needs to be upgraded.

Hotel needs major repairs and upgraded. Room clean but small surprisingly comfortable for time spent in room. Good location and walking distance to everything. Would like to see hotel upgraded would make it a great place to stay. Staff on duty was friendly during my stay.

Fine for the Price

I had low expectations when I arrived. The lobby smelled like cigarette smoke, and was full of loud intoxicated college kids who were staying in town for a football game. With the exception of the filthy rug, the room was generally clean, although on Sunday, housekeeping didn't make up my room until 4:30 pm. Overall, I was looking for a cheap room and that's what I got. I wouldn't want to stay there with my wife and kids, but it was fine for me.

Great Room for Money and Location

The hotel is 1 block from the French Quarter, but not "in" the French Quarter (easy access without being immersed). The cable street cars run right by the hotel entrance. The Convention Center and RiverWalk is all within walking distance. There is a small fee paid separate from the room cost (~$7.50/night), which covers all local and long distance telephone calls, full access to all features of the business center, full access to the fitness center, and free continental breakfast every day. The valet parking (full in/out privileges) is posted as $26/day, but was actually covered in the cost of the room. The room was small and didn't have a window. But the bathroom was completely new and renovated. The staff was exceptionally helpful in everything...including standing out in the street and blocking traffic for us when the valet brought us our car. Because of the location, almost all dining options you might hope for are within walking distance. Other things you might want or need are available in the stores and pharmacies nearby (usually within 1 - 2 blocks from the hotel). The entrance to the hotel is very cramped to try to find a parking place to check-in...and valet parking is a must.

Valet

This was a good hotel, not outstanding, but you get what you pay for. The only thing i was dissapointed in was the attitude it seem the check in staff seemed to have and the surprise of the $26 a day valet charge. This was out first visit to New Orleans, we did not expect parking to be such an issue. Please, when you are considering hotels to stay in, keep in mind Royal St. Charles charges $26 a day to be added on when you check out. If you find a hotel that is a little more expensive, but includes valet, you may want to consider it.

Great room for the money

Somewhat disappointed with the overall condition of the room, but for a hotel one block from Canal St and about half the price of comparable hotels, I can't say that i was unhappy with my stay.

Good Room for the Money

I enjoyed staying at the Royal St Charles.. the location was great.. right between the superdome and bourbon street. The room was pretty small and the club in the lobby was really loud but for a temporary stay it was fine.
