Royal Solaris Cancun Resort, Marina & Spa -All Inclusive

Needs improvements - I do not recommend

Terrible service- not much staff available. It was all inclusive and they didn't even have bottled water available. Food was horrible. Restaurants were dated. Rooms are older, bed is hard. The patio has a concrete slab blocking a beautiful ocean view, so all you see when sitting on the deck is the concrete slab wall. Overall I did not enjoy the stay and we checked out early, forfeiting all our money and paid for another place that was much nicer. The trip was great once we changed properties.

Solaris Hotel/Resort

We had a blast! The entire staff was great. The only negative would be the smells in the public bathrooms...but this is Mexico...they need to start flushing their TP! You could find a quiet pool or a pool w/activities--your choice. Great fun.

Great Experience

Outside of the constant solicitors wanting you to sit through their "presentation" to join a vacation club my experience at the Royal Solaris was GREAT! Me and a friend just went for a quick weekend and decided to stay an extra day because we were so impressed by the service at the hotel for the price we paid. The rooms were spacious (bathrooms did need to be upgraded)and the amenities were wonderful! We are planning a return trip with other family and friends.

Outstanding Hotel

I really loved the hotel. It had a lot of dining options. The pools and the outside was beautiful. The service was great. All-inclusive was definitely the way to go. The only issue that I had with the hotel was before I got there. I tried calling them a ton of times, and they were really hard to get a hold of and that was frustrating. But once I was there, it was a great experience.

Excellent facility -great family vacation

We had three rooms and a group of 10 people for a family vacation ages- 3 to 63. We were a little wary, never having done any kind of trip like this, but we were very happy with our experience. The rooms are nice, clean and updated. The food was great. Not every restaurant was open every night, but the variety was excellent. In addition, the two fancy restaurants provided meals that were easily in excess of $50.00 per person. There were many different pools with different depths, etc. Plenty of lounge chairs and the beach was right behind the pools. Free drinks and open buffets were nice! The kids club was nice and there were two kiddie pools. One was just a rectangle, by the other pools and the other was in the kids club with slides, etc. There was a craft area for the kids club. Most of these kids were from 4-11 years old The staff was super friendly and fun. There was stuff going on all the time. In addition, they told us how to cheaply get to downtown Cancun- bus is easy and cheap. They also helped with airport transportation. We had a van that cost us $8.00 per person round trip from the airport. Much better than $12.00 taxi ride per person, only one way! One disadvantage is that it is not super close to the downtown area, but for the price and less than $1.00 per person, the bus works just fine! The nightly entertainment was very good. It is done by the help, and they had a nice variety of fun/ family type shows.They were young and energetic. The shows were well choreographed and included audience participation. There wasn't really any snorkeling. You have to go on a tour/trip for that. The paddle boats, kayaks, wind surfing is not in the ocean, it is in the large lagoon across the road. It was hot the day we went, however, it seemend that all the hotels had these activities across the road. All in all, it was a great trip and excellent value for the money.

Good value for the money

The hotel is an older hotel. I read about that before going so I was prepared and I also read about the "timeshare sharks" but my husband and I were not approached once by anyone, which was nice. We took our two kids 4 and 7 and put them in the kids club, which the first day was great, but the second day we brought them in and the "care person" was so busy playing a video game that she never turned her head, so I stayed with the kids until my husband got the manager and after a heated conversation in Spanish the lady said "no problem" but there was problem, so stayed in the area for 15 minutes then picked them back up, worried they would get treated badly. So, the kids club is not supervised very well, as American's we take good care of our children and expect the same somewhere else, so that was a disapointment, but we did get it straighten out and they did participate in some activities. Overall, we did have a good time, the hotel had something going on every hour and the food was not bad, (as previously reported), the room was old and small, but I didn't come to stay in the room. I probably will not go back to this hotel, I would like to find one that has a nicer and cleaner kids club and hotel room.

Good value

We loved staying at the Royal Solaris. We were a group of 15 with 5 vhildren under the age of 7. It was perfect for families. The staff was wonderful and amenities were sufficient. Food was great at any of the sit down restaurants, and it was nice to have so many options. The only complaints would be that the hotel is under renovation, so I would have like to have access to the extra pool and a hot tub. And the night entertainment was mediocre, though the kids loved it. We would definately stay there again with the family. I would likely choose somewhere a little more quiet for just my husband and I.

Royal Solaris Cancun

Most authentic, real Mexican design, beautiful surroundings. The setting is breath-taking. Selection of food fantastic, however the quality, especially the seafood-poor. Every single fish item we tried tasted a day old, tough, dry and reheated. Staff very nice & considerate, but WAY too much badgering of employees trying to get you to listen to their time share offers. Half way through the vacation, i finally said "Look, you people need to back off & quit badgering us already, it's getting irritating." First room moldy & bad view. Second room good view, but the door mechanism didn't work and had to be repaired. Then the bath faucet sprayed loads of water all over the adjacent wall, so that had to be repaired. It broke again the next day. Finally, the toilet started running near the end of the stay, and we didn't even bother asking for a repair, we just kept shutting off the wall valve each time after usage. Lastly, there was jack-hammer construction from 9-5 every business day. Also, BOTH outdoor hot tubs broken and chewing gum fused into the cement of our room. The place is 20 years old, still quite lovely but they seriously need to but some effort into maintanience. That said, for the price, we were pretty satisfied.

Overall Terrible Experience -- Would not recommend

The hotel was not well maintained or clean. The elevator was broke the entire stay and the stairwell all customers were forced to use was very dirty. The food was O.K. to say the least. We purchased a "club tour" package which was a waste of money as it did not leave until 1 hour + after it was supposed to and was impossible to stay with the crew to go from one spot to the other. For the price, have stayed at MUCH better Cancun options. Would not stay here again, very disappointing.
