Outstanding ambiance. Very quaint! Very old. We'd go back anytime.

The hotel rating and description needs to be reviewed. It is not a four star property. No hot water in room.

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 18Dishonest description, disappointing experience
My husband and I stayed at this hotel on our last night in Italy. The photos available on Hotels.com included two shots of an outdoor pool, and we were really looking forward to relaxing after our two week vacation. The staff member looked utterly confused when I asked about the pool, and then said it was 3 km away and that we would need to take a bus to get there. The room itself was on a very busy street (nothing "resort" about it), and didn't feel completely safe with barred windows and door. It was convenient to the ruins, and close to the airport. The staff did arrange for a 5:30 am taxi for us, but didn't tell us that the 10 minute ride would cost 35 Euro, due in advance with no change available. (The cab from Rome all the way out to Ostia Antica was only 45 Euro.)

Trip Type: Family Review 4 of 18Rustic Village Next to old Castle
This hotel is very convenient to Rome's airport and next to some of the most extensive Roman ruins. There are restaurants within feet of the hotel and the hotel staff is more than willing to help with travel arrangements. Some might not like the closeness to the castle or the church which is across the piazza. Lots of weddings in the piazza on Saturdays.

The proprietor was very welcoming and gave us excellent service. The hotel was charming and right near the antiquities. The neighborhood was interesting.

the front office closed within 30 min. of us checking in (~3pm). We had no phone in the room. There was no shuttle to the airport, which was advertised. The taxi that was scheduled was actually not a taxi, but someone who works for the hotel and charged us taxi prices. It was nice from them to set that up, since they advertise a free shuttle, but then they made us pay.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 8 of 18Great, spacious room but DON'T EAT AT THE RESTAURANT
This hotel is very easy to find and convenient to those travelers going out of the airport. The room was actually a suite of small one bedroom apartment minus the appliances. It is adjacent to all old fort and was quite confortable and a short walk to coffee, etc. The restaurant was another matter. It is located on a nearby horse ranch and the food, music, service was simply terrible!! DON'T EAT THERE!!

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 10 of 18Great little town
WE walked to the ruins which were across the street. I only wish we had more than 2 hours to spend there. We ate dinner, at the recommendation of the owner, at a country house. The meal was home made and price fix. (only 25E). We had an appetizer, pasta dish, soup, main course and fruit. Homemade wine from the region and oozo with the fruit and expresso. What a deal. I would love to go back to this lovely town and spend more time there. We had to get up at 4am to catch a 6AM flight home. The building we stayed in was built in 1400 and the walls were at least 3 feet thick. What an experience.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 12 of 18Beatiful and Unique.
Rodrigo de Vivar is a one-of-a-kind hotel located close to Rome's Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) airport. The staff was great and it's worth using this as more than a place to stay before your next-day flight. It's located right next to the Castle and resembles a small medieval village in the surrounding courtyard. There are good restaurants nearby. The main problem is finding it. It is directly next to the castle in Ostia, so I suggest looking for the castle and you'll have better luck than we did. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel for its price, uniqueness, and as a great deal.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 13 of 18Unique Hotel
The Rodrigo de Vivar might not be for everyone, but we loved it. It is in a small, quaint village just outside the Fuimicino Airport, and many of the rooms are located in a 400 year old building near the Ostia Antica ancient ruins. But know that the inn is on a 400 acre estate so some of the rooms are not located near the main building. Be sure to have lunch at the restaurant behind the inn, and sample some of the organic wine produced on the estate. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 14 of 18Comfortable Hotel / Close to Airport
We stayed at the country site and the room was nicely furnished, fairly large, and very comfortable. We only stayed there one night, before flying out of Italy, and wished we had more time to look around Ostia Antica. The country site is off the main road, a little ways down on a gravel road and I would recommend having a car if you want to stay here. If you don't have a car, then the other rooms, in the city, would be more convenient. The staff was very nice and accomodating.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 15 of 18We loved Rodrigo de Vivar
We loved this place. We got to experience a little of the countryside outside Rome and the hotel staff treated as if we were royalty. It's actually a great place inside the walls of a medieval fortress surrounding a castle. As a cute touch, they picked flowers for our room and left a bedtime story on the bed about knights, ladies and wizards. It really puts one in the mood with the castle right out the window. This was a wonderful find not far from the Rome airport. There were amazing restaurants very close that were very well priced.
