Riu Palace Riviera Maya All Inclusive

Very good experience

We were pleasantly surprised by the attentiveness of the staff. We had previously stayed at The Royal and found it a little to be desired. The food was great, we ate mostly at the buffet. The only thing that I would like to see improved would be the mattresses, but that's not a deal killer. The taxi to downtown Playa was 50 pesos, once again not a big deal or, you could take a nice walk through the gated community that the hotel is surrounded by. Overall a very good experience and we would definitely stay there again.

Great resort with lots of options but plan ahead for meals

Some friends had recommended the hotel and we're experienced all-inclusive resort participants so we knew what to expect. The resort was mostly well maintained but starting to show aging with items such as rust developing on building pillars. The rooms were elegant and well maintained but exclusively tile floors to be cautious when they get wet. The cooridors for room access aren't air conditioned and can get very noisy and doors closing down the hall can awake you from a good sleep. The food was great but if you're planning on a la carte service, plan ahead as they have strict rules about reservating ahead and only in person from the lobby bar between 12-3pm. We were disappointed that 1/2 of the restarants were closed each night and only allowed one seating at 6:30 when normally there'd be two seatings. It's off season so we weren't shocked but it'd been nice to have a 2nd seating option.

Outstanding Hotel w/ Great Location

My family's stay at the Riu Riviera Maya was a wonderful and memorable experience. From the sit-down check in that they offered my party, to the exceptional service at Don Manolo's Buffet Restaurant. The hotel's location to 5th Avenue, is about an enjoyable 20 minute walk with old ruins on your way there. We booked the lead-in category, with a calming view of the of the well manicured lawn and small trees. Not ocean view, but we're not picky. The beds were comfortable and big enough for 3 adults in one room. Overall the hotel was exceptional and exceeded all expectations of the trip.

Outstanding Service, Food needs help

I recently stayed at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya, 1/21/09-1/25/09. Overall I was very impressed with the hotel. The service was outstanding, the staff couldn't do enough for you. We stayed in a beautiful suite with a jacuzzi on the deck overlooking the pool with an ocean view. The room was immaculately cleaned every day and was a pleasure to come back to after a long day laying on the beach. My only complaint is that the bedsheets were very cheap; hospital quality. They were abrasive, thin and didn't breathe well which made for an uncomfortable night's sleep. The hotel grounds and buildings are beautiful and extremely well maintained. Everything is constantly cleaned and trimmed. The included activities blew us away: from snorkeling to windsurfing to scuba lessons in the pool, dance class, water aerobics and alot more. We had a great time! The beach is beautiful and the water is so warm! The only complaints I have are in regards to the meals and drinks. Now, take this with a grain of salt because I'm a foodie who loves to cook and enjoys fine restaurants and wine etc...The food was, across the board, mediocre at best and inedible at worst. In addition to the lunch and dinner buffets, we went to three of the special restaurants: Japanese (sushi was a joke), Brazilian and Mexican(we're in Mexico for goodness sake! how hard is it to make a taco taste good?). They basically use the same low quality ingredients everywhere in slightly different ways, add an ethnic garnish and call it "Japanese" or whatever. The highlight was the Brazilian place, whose food was marginally better but still can't compare to a real Brazilian BBQ joint. Likewise, the all-inclusive liquor was a disappointment. Corona or if you're lucky Negra Modelo is pulled from undercleaned taps, Jose Cuervo tequila and Smirnoff vodka are the standard pours. Some Improvments needed

Overall the hotel was good but there were some areas that could be improved on. First of all the pool closes at 8pm every day. No late night swimming or hot tubbing allowed. They also tie all the hammocks up at night so you can not lay in them after dinner if you would like. The alcohol selection for all inclusive is very limited. Corona is the only beer served which is also a dissappointment. The buffet food was pretty good but the restaurants were awful. Only had one good item out of three meals and it was a side dish.

Amazing Honeymoon

We had a great time at the Riu. The people were overly helpful, and the cleanliness was amazing. There was always someone cleaning something. The food was great as were the drinks. One of the best parts is when you stay at a Riu Palace, you can go to the other Riu's in Playacar all-inclusive. There are like 5 of them, so you could go hang out at the other Riu's just like it was your own. 5th Avenue is in walking distance or a $5 cab ride. I can't say enough about this place.

great place

good service,and food, and quality drinks not just call brands like in some places. the staff spoke really good english for the most part, and everyone was friendly and courteous. the hotel is only a couple years old, so everything is still new. ps: great sports bar.

Wonderful Hotel and staff

Beautiful hotel with excellent food!! Staff that went above and beyond to accomodate us, room service was very convenient! Make your dinner reservations in a timely manner to ensure you get one. The beds are not the most comfortable, but what is to be expected?? It would be nice if the pool with the swim up bar was open later. Overall, this was the best vacation we have ever been on and definately reccomend this resort to others, we are already planning our next stay at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya!!! We guarantee you will NOT be disappointed in any way.
