    We were pleasantly surprised by the attentiveness of the staff. We had previously stayed at The Royal and found it a little to be desired. The food was great, we ate mostly at the buffet. The only thing that I would like to see improved would be the mattresses, but that's not a deal killer. The taxi to downtown Playa was 50 pesos, once again not a big deal or, you could take a nice walk through the gated community that the hotel is surrounded by. Overall a very good experience and we would definitely stay there again.

    Some friends had recommended the hotel and we're experienced all-inclusive resort participants so we knew what to expect. The resort was mostly well maintained but starting to show aging with items such as rust developing on building pillars. The rooms were elegant and well maintained but exclusively tile floors to be cautious when they get wet. The cooridors for room access aren't air conditioned and can get very noisy and doors closing down the hall can awake you from a good sleep. The food was great but if you're planning on a la carte service, plan ahead as they have strict rules about reservating ahead and only in person from the lobby bar between 12-3pm. We were disappointed that 1/2 of the restarants were closed each night and only allowed one seating at 6:30 when normally there'd be two seatings. It's off season so we weren't shocked but it'd been nice to have a 2nd seating option.

Location. Riu Palace Riviera Maya All Inclusive rises along a spectacular stretch of white-sand beach framed by palm trees within the Playacar complex in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Playacar Golf Club is located one kilometer from this luxury resort, and downtown Playa del Carmen is three kilometers away.

Hotel Features. Eleven on-site restaurants cater to international tastes and include Japanese fare at Yashimi, Brazilian specialties at Botafogo and a new a la carte restaurant called the Krystal Dining Room. Recreational options include an outdoor pool with an adjoining spa tub, sun terrace, children's pool and a complimentary fitness center. A floodlit hard-surfaced tennis court, table tennis, volleyball and an assortment of ocean water-sports equipment add to this all- inclusive resort's appeal. Guests are also entitled to one introductory scuba-diving lesson in the resort's pool. Renova Spa offers a myriad of massage and body-wrap treatments, and houses a beauty salon. Daytime activities include supervised programs for children ages 4 to 12. Adult entertainment includes live music venues and shows.

Guestrooms. This three-story resort features 400 junior suites with Mexican-décor accents. Balconies or terraces provide ocean, garden or pool views. Rooms include flat-screen televisions with cable channels, sitting areas, bathrooms with hydromassage bathtubs, minibars and liquor dispensers. Suites offer separate living rooms and dressing rooms, while select suites feature in-room spa tubs.

Expert Tip. Xcaret Archeological Park, located six kilometers from the hotel, offers fascinating attractions that include tours of a replica of a Mayan village, guided excursions through the Mayan ruins, dolphin swims, Ultralight sky tours, and boat rides down the Paradise River. Hotel staff can assist with tour arrangements.
