Expert Tip. Calw's impressive and beautifully maintained late 17th- and early 18th-century half-timbered houses are one of the main reasons to visit the town, 15 kilometres from the Ringhotel Moench's Waldhotel. Another is the 14th- century Nikolausbrucke, a bridge in the centre, which has some meticulously chiselled masonry. Literary scholars can head for Hesse Haus, the birthplace of Herman Hesse.
