Description
Location. The Residence San Giorgio Matera is housed in a series of buildings dating back to 1700 and is located in the centre of the ancient Italian town of Matera. The Museum of Local Culture is 20 metres from the hotel, and the Archaeological Site is 200 metres away. Bari International Airport is 55 kilometres from the hotel, an approximate driving time of 60 minutes.
Hotel Features. The hotel's lobby features classic Italian coffee and has a library with volumes on Matera's history. Complimentary Internet access is on offer, and other practical amenities include parking (surcharge) and babysitting and childcare by arrangement.
Suites. The 10 suites, over two floors, have muted decor, traditional furnishings and separate sitting areas. All are equipped with kitchenettes, balconies, climate control, satellite television, wireless Internet access and minibars.
Expert Tip. The Sassi (cave houses) of Matera are said to be the only homes in the world continuously occupied for 9,000 years. They have been used as movie locations, most recently by Mel Gibson in 'The Passion of the Christ'.
