good find

My friend and I were travelling to Cairns for the week to visit the area. The hotel is well located, close to very fine dining, and despite being a casino, very quiet. the room was comfortable and clean. We also had outstanding service by the staff, with great attention to detail by Michael the night manager.

Absolutely First Class

Cairns gets a bad rap as there are more "deluxe" areas to the north in Port Douglas and Palm Cove. However, we found that the Sofitel was an outstanding value. It is downtown Cairns, 10 minutes from the airport, right in the middle of all of Cairns' action, and 5 minutes walking distancefrom the wharf with access to all of the Reef adventures and the Esplanade--where the action is in Cairns. It has a casino and an indoors rainforest display, and we loved to rooms--very well laid out and very classy. Ask for a water (front) view; if you get back of the hotel, it can get noisy at night with the revelers making their way back from the bars!
