Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 172Decent room for the money
Great spot, felt safe, pretty affordable compared to other hotels. On the downside, there was a hot water shortage in the morning.

Trip Type: Family Review 2 of 172Good hotel, excellent location
The room was small but adequate, the bed comfy. Service was better than I expected for the price. The neighborhood was quiet and it is close to many excellent restaurants. I wold definitely stay here again.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 172Great room for the money
I have stayed in one of the smaller rooms and in an upgraded deluxe room and both were great. Furnishings were clean and in great condition, toiletries available, and bed comfortable. The location is fabulous -- lots of restaurants and shops nearby with a nice neighborhood feel.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 172Great room for the money, excellent location
The room was small, and I'm not a big fan of "shared bathroom" - but I knew these things going in. The location was excellent...subway, Central Park, shopping, dining...definitely very happy with Park 79.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. The location is excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the attractive room was immaculate. Yes, the room was small and I used the shared bathroom but for the money, it was excellent value. I'll definitely stay here on my next trip to New York City.

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 6 of 172Great Upper West Side Location
The location was great -- two blocks from Broadway (Filene's Basement, Zabar's, the subway). Room was fine, but nothing great -- definitely not a romantic weekend kind of place. Room was a little awkward -- no lighting above the sink, plug almost too far away from sink to use hair dryer -- and the room itself was v. dark (it was also very rainy while I was there, so no natural sunlight coming in didn't help). However, it was an inexpensive, basic room, so it works.

Trip Type: Business Review 7 of 172Great value Great location
The room was very clean. Nice sheets. Shared bathroom spotless and no one around. It is so worth the value for those wanting to see NY on a budget. Great location right by subway and a block from Central Park. Nice local restaurants. Ask for a room away from street. Staff very nice.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 8 of 172Small but convenient, clean
I chose the single room with shared bath, which is always risky, but it turned out OK. My room was very small with the bed near the door, but I slept very well most nights except once when I ended up cramped up against the headboard in my sleep because the bed was so small. The shared bathroom was clean other than one time when a guest left it kind of wet and messy, but that is the deal with a shared bath. I wish they had a place for guests to put their stuff and a place to sit while changing after a shower(which is kind of necessary)... :) Otherwise, my request for an extra pillow was met, the staff seemed polite enough, and the biggest plus, the neighborhood, made my economy stay seem like a luxury. I will be back. p.s. Hint--when using the elevator, be sure to press the "close" button each time to speed up the trip!!

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 9 of 172Fantastic for a Budget, Super Service and Location
This hotel was very impressive to me. It's simple with small rooms--but perfect if you're in the city and need a clean, safe, welcoming place to crash without paying an arm and a leg. The hotel rates are affordable considering the Upper West Side location. It's clean, my room was in great condition, and the hotel staff was truly accommodating. I highly recommend this place for solo or budget travelers. I will definitely be returning.

Great location, perfectly small and simple room. No frills but quality hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 11 of 172Great Location
It's a small, quaint room with a shared bathroom in an excellent location. Close to lots of good bars and restaurants, Central Park and subways. One caveat, if you want to use the wireless internet, plan on sitting in the lobby.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 12 of 172Great location but hotel is not for everyone.
This is a budget hotel in NYC. Concerns: No lobby to speak of. Tired building. Small room, tight for a couple, bed against the wall so you have to get out of bed at the foot of the bed (or climb over your mate), blank walls in our room, a loud window air conditioner, a dark, small bathroom and worst, the room had a disagreeable odor, perhaps from a prior smoker (not allowed) or a cleaning agent. Positives: A good, responsive staff, a flat screen TV, little amenities in the room and bath, a good shower, a comfortable bed and quality towels. Best: The location for the price. So would we recommend this hotel? Only to some people. This hotel is not for everyone. To those who want this great locale but also want their comforts, I'd say there are better choices.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 14 of 172First Trip To NYC: Great Hotel for Singles or Couples
This was my first trip to New York City. I am a college student that needed a nice trip to go on alone for spring break. I knew that, being a "creature of comfort", I needed a hotel that didn't have an excess of amenities that would keep me inside each day for longer than necessary. However, it still needed to be very comfortable to return to after a long day of walking around. Park 79 gave me just what I needed: a standard, cozy room (maybe a tad "small" to some people) with a very comfortable bed, and a nice, clean bathroom. I have a "thing" about bathrooms that aren't mine, so it was just what I needed. There were options to choose a room with a shared bathroom on the floor, but I just booked a room with a private one, and was not disappointed. I also enjoyed the free Wi-Fi Internet access. The staff was always friendly and willing to help with advice on where I needed to go while in NYC. I was always greeted, going out and coming in, with a smile or a "hello" (which I surprisingly don't get, everywhere I stay). What I loved most about the hotel was the location! Being less than a block away from Central Park made for enjoyable, scenic early morning walks to get the mind and body in sync. There were also a few subway stations nearby, which basically made all of Manhattan (Midtown, Times Square, etc) accessible within minutes by train. I'm a quiet person, so I appreciated being close to all the sights and sounds, without being right in the middle of them all the time. I ended up just wondering around by foot most of my trip, but still kept a subway metro card handy with a few bucks on it, when needed. I am already anticipating a return to NYC soon, and Park 79 is on my short list of hotels where I will consider staying. Again, not the most ideal hotel for larger families (4+), but great for single travelers or couples needing a nice and affordable place to stay.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 15 of 172Good Value Budget Hotel
Very small bedroom and bathroom. Shower slow to run hot water. All that said, good value for money in a good location. Air Con and Flat screen TV were good. Bed comfortable. You get what you pay for - this is good value. Your expectations need to match the price you pay.
