Deferred Maintenance

While this may have been a glorious hotel in its hayday as a club med facility, don't let the pictures be your guide. A long time of little or no maintenance has taken its toll. The rooms at today's standards are spartanic. However, it is the only hotel we found that is pet friendly in this area. The staff is doing its best with what they have to work with. The beaches and the scenery adjoining are nothing short of spectacular.

We chose this hotel because it was in the middle of the price range for all San Carlos Hotels. We should have been concerned when there were no photos of the rooms online prior to booking reservation. The grounds are beutiful, lush, with lagoon and beaches, we were excited. We got to our first room and were greeted by a puddle of water in front of it, that never evaporated. It was musty and mildew-y and we had diffibulty breathing (as we have asthma). There was no phone, no alram clock and no heat. Staff were very willing to move us to another room on the second floor, that was in the same condition. We were glad we only reserved one night's stay, as the amoutn charged was too muco for the quality of this room. We were more than ready to check-out at daylight. The hotel is under construction and things may improve later, but not right now (11/08). FYI-we had a "lagoon-facing" room. The grounds are very nice and have a lot of acitivities, but be aware that they routinely have multiple weddings on the weekends and they may go late into the night.

Needs renovation/maintenance

Beds are against the wall so you have to crawl over your partner. Not handicapped friendly. I have better looking garage towels than the guest towels the hotel supplied. On the positive side...hotel personnel were very nice.

Bad Stay

While we read that the rooms at this hotel were "very basic", I would call it somehwere between "prison-like" and "spartan". No clock or phone in the room. Beds were on the floor and wedged into a niche in the wall. That is, exit from one side of the bed only. Showers were moldy. Halls were dark. There was a dead fish in the fresh water swimming pool.
