While I do recommend this hotel to others, it is only with hesitation. Really, the only thing going for this hotel is it's location. I think Poipu Beach is the best place to stay when visiting Kauai and you can't really do any better than this hotel with it's own beach access that is located next to Poipu Beach state park. Moreover, it is located across the street from Poipu Shopping Village with its comfortable shops and restaurants. Old Koloa Town (and more shopping and restaurants) is just a short- 10 minutes max.- drive away. Lastly, the drive to and from Lihue airport is a relatively short distance. As you read other reviews of this hotel, as I did prior to booking, you may notice that the reviews vary considerably. One person had a fantastic experience while another had a disappointing one. Count us in the latter group. We paid for a one bedroom Royal Garden View which, as per the hotel's description, came with a sofa bed in the living area. This is where we were to have our 6 year old sleep. Well, upon check-in, the woman at the front desk saw our daughter standing there with us and checked us into what she called "a great room", but did not tell us that the sofa bed was out of commission! It was obvious that it had been broken for quite some time as we went to put our daughter to bed late that night and the bed had been wired closed with a handwritten note that said "Do Not Use-Broken". When I complained about it the next morning, a different woman at the front desk looked at her hotel room map and immediately confirmed that the sofa bed did not work. She offered to move us to a room that was of lower quality or give us a roll-away bed, "free of charge". Did she expect that we would pay more? Furthermore, our Internet connection did not work and despite half a dozen calls to the help desk that they contract out to, no one ever fixed our problem. In general, the room rates here are not cheap. We felt that the management of this location is simply trying to

Location. Located on Kauai's south shore, the Outrigger Kiahuna Plantation occupies 35 lush acres in Koloa, Hawaii. Settled between a scenic beach and an open-air shopping mall, the resort enjoys convenient placement on the island. Dense rainforests, impenetrable valleys, majestic peaks and perfect golden beaches make Kauai one of Hawaii's most desirable destinations. The sights, smells and sounds of the island promote relaxation, with shimmering waterfalls, the scent of ginger and plumeria and morning birdsong all pleasing the senses.

Hotel Features. The former plantation house instills an aura of tranquility and captures the nostalgia of 19th century Hawaii. The Moir Gardens feature fantastically-formed cacti, ancient lava-rock walls, lagoons and artifacts such as a grinding stone from Hawaii's first sugar plantation. Guests have access to the Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club with its lagoon-style pool, jetted tub and waterslide. Ten tennis courts, a pro shop and an activity hut complete with towels, snorkeling equipment, boogie boards and sunscreen exist on the property.
