Occidental Grand Papagayo All Inclusive

Location and grounds awesome; Service terrible

If you are looking for a secluded resort with beautiful scenery this place was very nice. There were 2 problems: 1) The service was absolutely terrible - like room service that just never came 2 nights in a row and front desk people that weren't very helpful or pleasant. 2) The place is all inclusive (and you need it because there is nothing within miles of the hotel) and the food was not very good at all.

What do you want to do?

The Occidental Grand Papagayo All Inclusive is a beautiful hotel if you want to sit by the pool/beach both of which are beautiful or drink unlimited fruity (or alcoholic drinks) which were also very, very good. But we got a little board since the property is very secluded. The trips from the hotel are a bit pricey so we took a tour offered but one of the guys on the beach (Unforgettable Tours) and it was amazing. Our guide was Diego. Our only true disappointments with the hotel were with the bathtubs and the food. The food was rather institutional(which is understandable) and there was NO Costa Rican food which we loved on the first half of our trip...we can have Italian at home...

Great Resort Stay in Costa Rica

My wife and I truly enjoyed the week we stayed at the Occidental Grand Papagayo (OPG) resort. All of the employees make every effort to make your stay enjoyable. The beach access has a private secluded feel. The food at all four restaurants is very yummy and provides a varied selection for every taste. Overall the location of the hotel is secluded and the nearest town is Coco Beach which is about a $35 r/t taxi ride. If your desire is to be centrally located to public transportation, non-contracted taxis or surrender to monopolized tour/excursion prices, the Occidental Grand Papagayo is not for you. The OPG is great for relaxing and staying within the resorts amenities. Lastly, the taxi ride from LIB airport to the OPG resort is $40 one way.

Good Hotel, Regular romms need some work

The maid service does not refill all amenities. The refrigerator was not refilled every day. The bathrooms do not have an adequate air conditioner to cool the area. The staff is very friendly and was very helpfull when needed.

Service was good. People were wonderful and wanted to please. Food was ok, definitely not good. If the food was better it would have been a very good choice.

ok but not outstanding

They need some improvement on daily linen supplies. Would only allow 1 washcloth for the room for two people to share and that was the only one for the entire week!! We had to change rooms because we didnt have airconditioning in the first one we were given. Concierge service needs improvement also. Our requests for making dinner reservations werent followed thru.
