    This hotel was very nice, very clean, and very modern. Unfortunately, it does not have air conditioning! It is located (1) block from the rail station and (3) blocks from the city center where there is an abundance of restaurants, outdoor cafes, shopping, etc. All the main tourist attractions are located within walking distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The internet is available, free of charge, in the lobby via a common PC.

Location. Dating from 1994, the Novotel Freiburg am Konzerthaus is a contemporary seven-storey hotel with a dramatic Modernist columned entrance portico, and is located in the centre of the historic city of Freiburg. The 16th century Town Hall is 600 metres from the hotel and the Cathedral is 800 metres away. Freiburg railway station is 100 metres from the hotel and Basel Airport is 60 kilometres away, with an approximate driving time of 60 minutes.

Hotel Features. Leisure facilities at the hotel include a heated indoor swimming pool, a sauna and a solarium, and a range of massage and beauty treatments are also available. Staff at the 24-hour front desk can exchange currency, provide room service (limited hours) and offer the use of a safe-deposit box. Public dial-up and wireless Internet access is available, and the hotel also houses a business centre. Motorists will find garage parking on site (surcharge).

The contemporary Restaurant La Rotonde serves local specialities and Mediterranean dishes and extends to a terrace for outdoor dining. The Scotch Corner Bar offers a wide range of international drinks and snacks in an informal, modern setting.

Guestrooms. The 218 wheelchair- accessible guestrooms over seven floors feature light decor, fitted carpets and contemporary furnishings, including desks. All are equipped with satellite television with Internet access and pay movies, direct-dial phones, dial-up Internet ports and minibars. Bathrooms include shower/tub combinations, robes and makeup mirrors.

Expert Tip. Catch the cable car from the medieval Swabia Gate up to the summit of Schlossberg for superb views across Freiburg. The Museum für Neue Kunst (modern art museum), 900 metres away, houses a collection of 20th-century avant-garde works by Arp, Dix and Macke.
