Newton Hotel

Great Location and Great Price

I was so surprised with the Newton. It is right at the 1 train, three blocks frm park, great local restaurants, spotless, quiet and very nice staff. It is so difficult to find a nice place to stay in NYC that one can afford. Newton is the rarity that falls into this category.

Clean Room Hard Bed

We were glad to have a doorman I believed named Edwardo, who was outstanding and helpful. Our bed was very uncomfortable, and the hotel full, so A man I believed to be a maintenance man brought us mats to help make the bed more comfortable. He was also great. Great location. Close to subway and good restaurants.

Great value by Manhattan standards

This hotel isn't cheap, but by Manhattan standards, it is very good value. We stayed in a 'shared bathroom' room. This wasn't a problem, because over 8 nights (on two different stays) not once did we have to wait to use the facilities. The only downside to the hotel, would be the extra charge for wi-fi access. The location seems far from the bustling centre of Manhattan (Times Sq etc) but as it is 50yards from an express subway stop, you can get right down down in 8-10 minutes. Overall, we would recommend this hotel to friends and family! p.s. The neighbourhood seemed to be very safe.

a disappointment

The hotel is extremely noisy. Don't count on getting any sleep at night. Between the noisy appliances and the street traffic outside, you are sure to stay up all night.

Good room for the price

This is a hotel that reminds me of the pensionne-type hotels I stayed while in Europe--small lobby, old elevator, but the room was large and well-equipped and clean, with a good-sized private bath, and even though the beds were sort of hard and pillows small, it was no big deal for my family. I am a big fan of the neighborhood, since I used to live on the Upper West Side, and this hotel is very convenient to the subway. All in all, not a bad deal.

Small room for hte money

It was a very nice hotel and nice location. We opted for the room with the private bathroom. The room was smaller compared to other hotels I've stayed in NYC. Workers were great and accodomating. If you dont plan on spending too much time inside, its fine.

share bath

Although we shared a bathroom; the bathroom was always kept clean. The staff there is wonderful and next time I go to NY; I will definitely stay there.

Small, but appropriate value

I recently stayed at the Newton and it was as previous reviews had stated. Very small rooms, but given the price that's what you get. Very good location and 1 min walk to the 1,2 or 3 subway line. Good restaurant selection all around, so no problem finding food. Rooms have window unit air conditioners and while a bit noisy, it worked great. All in all, if you are not spending time in the room other than to sleep and shower, this is a good value.

Great location

Great location near subway, Central Park and Riverside Park and lots of reasonably priced restaurants. Microwave, frig and coffeepot in room were very convenient.

Great Location, lacking amenities

The location of this hotel for the relatively cheap price can't be beat. There's a subway stop that takes you almost directly to any part of the city located less than a block away. The hotel lacks free wi-fi ($5 a day) and virtually any other amenity, and the rooms are pretty small, but it's all the more reason to spend your time exploring the city, and not sitting around your room!

Great room for the money

Stayed here during a family vacation to NYC and everything I had heard about this hotel was true: small rooms, great location, great price. We were tourists, never in our room so we just needed somewhere to sleep. This was perfect. Rooms are small and window AC was loud but otherwise, stay was great! Staff was helpful and friendly. Location close to subway in a nice neighborhood. Would stay here again!
