Hotel Features. The lobby of Millennium Hotel Christchurch is decorated with sculpture and other artwork and includes an arcing staircase sweeping up to the second floor. The hotel offers business services and includes six function rooms that can seat from 14 to 200 people. Wireless Internet access is available in public areas for a fee. Restaurant Piko Piko serves contemporary cuisine. The restaurant is open during breakfast, lunch and dinner hours and provides 24-hour room service. The hotel's Millennium Lounge offers live jazz and drinks. The hotel also includes a fitness center and a sauna. Pets are not permitted at this hotel.
Guestrooms. The nine-story hotel's 179 guestrooms, renovated in 2006, offer traditional contemporary décor in muted colors. Amenities include 32-inch LCD televisions, movies and premium cable channels, direct-dial phones, desks and safes. High-speed Internet access is available for a fee. Rooms also include coffee and tea makers and minibars. All guestrooms are nonsmoking.
Expert Tip. Christchurch Botanic Gardens, located one kilometer from the hotel, is a 52-acre park bordered by the Avon River. The gardens include one of the most extensive collections of exotic and indigenous plants in New Zealand. An herb garden, a rose garden, a rock garden and a water garden are interspersed among expanses of lawn and tall trees. A separate section contains only plants native to New Zealand. The Botanic Gardens are open from early morning to early evening or mid-evening, depending on the time of year.
