Trip Type: Not Provided Review 1 of 53An Historic Hotel
From the moment you walk into this lovely hotel you know you're in for a special treat. The lobby is absolutely gorgeous with remarkable period detail. This is the way it used to be and I love it! The second thing you will notice about this extraordinary place is the quality of the staff. I don't know how they recruit or train the staff but they have a superb staff from top to bottom. As an example, while looking for my room I took a wrong turn. Hey, I was tired, having spent a virtually sleepless night on a plane. I wandered down some hallways but the numbering was different from what I was looking for. After a few moments I spotted an open doorway with someone inside painting. I, forgetting that I was in a foreign country, asked - in English - if he knew where room number whatever was. He answered in perfect English, "Certainly sir, may I take you there?" He certainly could, and did, even taking my bag for me. You can actually expect this level of service at this hotel. As for the location, it couldn't be better. You are just a short walk from the train station, which is just a short ride from the airport. The historic district is only minutes away, walking. There are many terrific options nearby for restaurants, but do yourself a favor and have at least one meal in the hotel's absolutely superb restaurant. It is a small splurge that is very well worth it. I can't wait to return.

We were able to walk to most of the sites we wanted to see. The hotel staff was very helpful. It is a high end hotel but worth the price.

Exceeded all our expectations. The location was wonderful and the hotel was simply beautiful.

Trip Type: Business Review 5 of 53First class hotel surpassed competition for same or higher price
The concierge was outstanding and people were very nice. My only issue was that the room itself, while large and with a comfortable bed and good a/c, had seen better days. It didn't look modern or luxurious. But there was a flat wall mounted TV with CNN, Bloomberg News etc, and the bed was comfortable and turned down every pm. It was a great boon to have the free mini bar with two beers, two cokes and two waters...as I was alone, I was never thirsty! The bath was large with deep, long, tub and telephone shower...bliss. And, they allowed me to check in at 8:30 am. They were redoing the lobby, but it wasn't a problem. The only drawback which also added to the charm was the ancient wrought iron elevator (one!) with a folding door that was always a struggle.

Very old hotel but nice and clean. We enjoyed the continental breakfast before we start our day. Hotel is just walking distance to the Grand Place.

Magnificent old hotel with quality incorporated at every level. The hotel was conveniently located right next to a metro stop. The first two nights of our stay, their wonderful breakfast buffet was included which just increased the overall value.

This hotel is beautiful, upscale, and a great value for the price. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms have free beverages and AC, and it is located right next to a Metro stop making traveling to and from the Metropole very simple. Overall this hotel was one of the best European hotel experiences I've ever had.

The Hotel was very convenient and central to all the tourist sites. The Underground was in front of the hotel. It was easy to use the public transit. Would recommend the purchase of a 1,2 or 3 day pass for use on the city trams, underground and certain museums. If you go to the tourist office in the old town square, you can purchase it or u can purchase it on line. You have to try the beer in Belgium. This hotel provided a few complimentary beers in the lil frig. in your room. The hotel does not offer a reasonable breakfast. You may go into the inside mall across the intersection, as u exit the main entrance of the hotel 2 your right (don't recall the street name.) There is a bakery that offers a continental breakfast at a reasonable price. Lots of restaurants in the immediate area. Try Belgium raffles, it is a most and Mussels for dinner. They are both a great experience and treat. Good luck and happy journey to all in Brussels.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 53Very good hotel
Well-informed, friendly, and helpful front desk staff, particularly the concierges. Excellent, substantial breakfast buffet. Spacious, sunny room overlooking the Place Broukere. Good A/C. Marble bathroom, large tub and shower, two sinks. Dozens--literally, dozens--of very good restaurants within three blocks. The only downside: slightly sketchy neighborhood within a one-block perimeter of the hotel itself. But we encountered no hassles at all during our eight-night stay.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 12 of 53Hot room
The hotel room air conditioning did not work. I called for assistance, but was offered only to wait 20 minutes until it worked. It didn't. It was too late at night to fuss with, so I took a sleeping pill. Ask for a room with workng air conditioning and then you will like the hotel.

Beautiful hotel but it lacked service. Our air conditioning broke down and it could not be fixed because the maintenance people leave after 5:00 PM!

Trip Type: Family Review 14 of 53Concierge snafu
I loved the hotel overall, but we experienced a serious problem with a concierge request. We requested that some important papers be faxed (which they did at a very reasonable price), but the process took a lengthy time, and when we returned for the original documents, they were not to be found. The documents were never recovered, and we now have personal info floating around Brussels. This was a great disappointment amid an otherwise great experience.
