Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 39Run Down Locale
This may be an issue with many caribbean hotels, but it really doesn't look like they have renovated any of the hallways or rooms for a very long time. I was on the first floor, which looked like a converted basement, very dark and dreary. In my room, there was some weird stuff in my sink, which I had to ask them to clean for me when I went to dinner. For the price being paid, I would have expected much better from this island... but then again, not many other options on St. Thomas.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 39Just okay...
As a business traveler my needs are different than the average visitor to St. Thomas. I frequently go to the USVI and normally stay elsewhere but tried the Mariott this time. While it would be fine for someone on vacation I am not certain I will return. Restaurants are very expensive - $42 for a "steak" buffet that only had one steak item done in a jerk sauce. The rest was pork ribs and chicken. Parking is limited and a good walk from the hotel. If you are not on the harbor side of the hotel, cell phone reception is poor. Check in and check out was a lengthy process, even by island standards. If you and your spouse are looking for a nice getaway, you should like the Mariott. As a business person there are better choices on the island that are also less expensive. My stay was okay, but for the premium I paid compared to other hotels on the island the Mariott did not do anything for me to justify the extra expense.

I asked for 2 rooms in the same vincinity in the hotel. We got 2 rooms that could not be farther away from each other, in fact our childrens room was down by the beach and we were at the hotel. Not goog. I paid for both rooms and expected and asked our childrens room sot be close by. I knew asking for them next to each other was asking too much, but a trolly ride apart was crazy and unorganized. The hotel itself is entirely unorganized, the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. For the money you pay, forget it. I would never stay there again. The dinners were too much money for what you got. The buffet was unorganized and many people were eating and not paying. I watched them come in, eat and leave without being noticed. Where was the management? Room was clean but still not worth the money. I won't stay there again. Not Marrott's standards for sure.

Many of the public spaces look dated. We checked in to a very musty, humid room but were given a better, satisfactory room immediately. The Front office personnel rates a five. The beach was good. The quality of food, for the price, is worse than mediocre. The wait personnel so, so. The younger ones are a bit more congenial. I know Puerto Rico is not a State but why do you batter with "Select a State"?

We debated about whether to go to the eastern side of the island or not and we are so glad we didn't. We just loved the Marriott. The service, the food, the views, the pools....all around wonderful. We hope to return soon.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 7 of 39Rude service long delays
Most (not all) staff were rude or intolerably slow. There was broken glass near the pool area, and despite a non-smoking rule the pool area was full of cigarette and cigar smoke. Our room was supposed to be ocean view but veiwed shrubs and the dirty bay. Food was overpriced and the surrounding town was dirty and a real dump. Taxi drivers there are jerks and won't help you put stuff in the taxis. The beach nearby called morningstar is too rough for kids and you have to take ashurtle to get there. It would be better to take the boardwalk but it's not handicap or stroller friendly. Bad for kids, families and non-smokers. The downtown is a tourist trap and duty free does not translate to savings. Price grabber shows they tack on hundreds of dollars. The so-called tourist places like coral-world and coki beach are horrible. Coral world is a run down fish tank and coki beach is a trash-strewn cess pool. Open bottles of liquor and rubbish litter the beach. Then you have the locals who smoke pot and sell you chairs for $6. When your done there with taxi your out $150. Save your money and go to any beach in culebra for less crowds and more kindness.

Great hotel. Super comfy beds. Only negative is the pool. Dirty and smelled of urine. I didn't get in.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 39Typical for most island hotes
The location is never on-par with stateside Marriott properties. Something is always broken or needs repair and painting. They also charge $16.00 per day for internet use.....not typical of other properties like the Ritz Carlton or Westin St John - both better maintained and free internet. I just don't like getting hit up on little charges that are typically included. We will stay at the Marriott just have your expectations in-line.

We stay in the old section of the motel that needs renovation but the view from the room was awesome. But motel service was excellent.
