Lying on the way to Spain and blessed with a very warm climate, Port-la-Nouvelle possesses a wealth of qualities that make it a very special place to spend a holiday. With the jetty, red and white lighthouse, the old pontoons of Rouet de La Palme steeped in clear water, and its northern beach towards the Tour de Vieille Nouvelle, Port-la-Nouvelle is a place full of authentic character. Cut off from the mainland by the Sigean lagoon and the Robine canal, the nearby Sainte-Lucie island is fragrant with a thousand different scents from rare trees and visually enticing with a landscape of wild beauty. Twelve kilometers away are the Rocbere wine cellars of Terra Vinea. A guided tour of this area will reveal numerous barrels in which the Rocbere wine is aged, a reconstructed Gallo-Roman villa, an underground lake, and an authentic mining display. Sport and leisure activities in the area include volleyball, beachball, kick boxing, baseball, kite flying, petanque, tennis, various watersports, pony and horse rides on the beach, and more. Also, readily available in town are concerts, shows, cinema, bars, and restaurants.
