Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 51Convenient, comfortable hotel
The Lord Elgin is an older hotel (1941) built in the grand style. My room was comfortable and clean. The staff were helpful and overall it is a good place to stay. However ... if you plan to use their "high speed" internet ($10 per day), be advised that it was very slow both in the evenings and during the day during my stay. I tried to work from my room and gave up. It took minutes to load simple web pages and email was incredibly slow. Don't bother trying to use their internet unless you have a lot of time on your hands and don't mind a connection 1/10 the speed of a dial-up.

Trip Type: Family Review 3 of 51Took care of us...
When my partner and I visited in Sept. 2009, I tripped in their weight room and had to go to the hospital. The staff was very responsive and helpful. They even sent a nice basket to the room. You can not beet the location of this hotel...just a few blocks from Parliament....Sometime outside demonstrators are a little noisy, but well worth the location. The hotel food is good, but WAY overpriced. The morning buffet was a good deal though. Overall I recommend the hotel!

Trip Type: Business Review 7 of 51Internet not free
Why don't these hotels have free internet in the room? Espeically when there is a late check-in and early check-out? BUT the hotel did have free internet computers on the lobby. Unfortunately I needed to use my computer. Otherwise the hotel is very nice, and a real fixture of Ottawa.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 8 of 51Perfect Ottawa Location
The staff in this hotel are amazingly friendly and helpful. A few steps out the door and one is close to the river tours, government buildings, and the heart of Ottawa. A few blocks down the street are all kinds of restaurants.

Trip Type: Family Review 9 of 51Wonderful Hotel, Wonderful Location!
We stayed at the Lord Elgin in August 2009 for a short pleasure vacation. We got a wonderful rate for the Executive King and it was worth the price!! The room was wonderful, great view from our 8th floor corner room. The room was quiet, bright and very clean. The bed was huge and comfortable. The bathroom had plenty of counter space, any used amenities were replaced. It also came with free high speed internet, free morning paper, free bottled water and free hot buffet breakfast. (The omelet station was great!) Plus a 5 minute easy walk from downtown Ottawa. (Byward Market or Parliament Hill) It had a very easy to use alarm clock (dumb but essential), also a mini fridge and coffee maker, The front desk staff was extremely polite and helpful, took care of anything promptly. (Our TV remote had dead batteries, a new remote was brought up withing 10 minutes and was double checked to be sure it worked with the TV) Parking was reasonable and average for the city, even better considering it was valet. Plus you were charged per 24 hour period which saved us money! Only minor issue was with the valet...In peek times, we did have to wait to get our car out or it could be tough getting space in the small area in front to drop off. But we quickly learned to budget our time. The valets were always helpful and friendly even when busy. We only waited 20 minutes for our car once, and about 5 minutes to get space to drop off. It was all the 4-star hotel you would expect, reasonable priced room, great service. Definitely upgrade for an executive room, the extra amount was worth it! We look forward to coming back to Ottawa and staying here again!

Trip Type: Family Review 10 of 51Great hotel and location
This was our second visit to the Lord Elgin Hotel. We booked a few nights last year after picking up a brochure at a visitor center and were very pleased with the hotel and the location. It is convenient to everything we wanted to see and do in Ottawa. The extra bonus is the daily parade by the hotel for the changing of the guard ceremony. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is very helpful.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 14 of 51Affordable Elegance in the heart of Ottawa
For convenience of walking to the Byward Market and the restaurants there, you can't beat the location of the Lord Elgin Hotel. And the quality of the hotel is very high, compared with the very reasonable cost. Frig in room is handy, Starbucks and bar in hotel also handy. We highly recommend this hotel!
