Just spent 2 days at Le Meridien Art + Tech in Turin (not to be confused with the nearby Le Meridien Lingotto). Spectacular Renzo Piano new Italian design, with modern/high tech look. Great buffet breakfasts with fresh squeezed OJ and cappucino included. Very friendly staff. Only negative is bedroom floor covering, which is high-tech composite material instead of carpet, and thus not very soft on feet.

Contemporary hotel with large airy rooms. Pleasant, attentive staff. Not the most beautiful location, but not too far from the city center by car or taxi. Definitely plan to stay at this hotel when I return to Turin next year.

Le Meridien Lingotto Art + Tech is part of the Lingotto Centre, formerly the 1920s Fiat Lingotto car plant which gained notoriety as the set of The Italian Job's car chase scene. Located four kilometres from the centre of Turin, the site was transformed in 1995 by Renzo Piano, renowned architect of the Pompidou Centre in Paris, and is now an eclectic minimalist architectural dream. The 142 air-conditioned guestrooms of the hotel are airy loft-style rooms with large window walls, ultra modern decor and Italian designer furnishings. The freestanding showers and beds are exclusively designed by T70 of Milan and beds have 39cm deep mattresses. All guestrooms feature 30-inch plasma screen televisions, bathrobes, designer toiletries, bathroom telephones, high-speed Internet access (fee), minibars and voicemail.

Guests can marvel at the hotel's stunning architecture with its vast atrium where the clean minimalist lines of glass and steel contrast with warm, cherry wood panelling and glass elevators. The restaurant Art + Cafe is open for breakfast and dinner (bar open all day) serving fusion dishes and Italian specialities in a striking setting which is actually suspended in the air. Jogging enthusiasts can take in the views from the rooftop running track. Business guests have access to meeting rooms with audio-visual equipment, computer rental as well as a range of business services and wi-fi in public areas. Drivers can appreciate the valet parking (surcharge) and a limo service is also available. Part of the Lingotto Centre, the hotel offers direct access to boutique shopping, cafes, multiplex cinema, museums and an art gallery, the Giovanni e Marella Agnelli Picture Gallery. The Egyptian Museum, home 30,000 ancient objects including the statue of Ramses II, is four kilometres away, as is the much visited Church and Museum of the Holy Shroud. Turin Dora railway station is also four kilometres from the hotel and Turin Airport(TRN) is approximately 35 minutes by car at a distance of 30 kilometres. A railway links the airport to Turin's GTT Dora Railway Station; departures are every 30 minutes from the station; a few meters from the air terminal. Taxis to the city centre charge around 45 EUR and take approximately 30 minutes and are available at Ground Floor, level zero.
