Trip Type: With Friends Review 3 of 157It Served Its Purpose
The staff was very friendly and helpful, it was more the room that we were dissatisfied with. The room was very small and didn't come with any thrills. No mini-fride, less than basic cable, and a broken air condition (that was promptly fixed once reported to the front-desk staff). Service was good, but the room was a little uncomfortable and the bathroom (shared) was a little scary with an always-open "hole in the wall" window. The elevators were very slow and even broke down during our stay. The location of the hotel is unbeatable though. Just up the street one way is the Empire State building, the other way the Flatiron Building. Located right next to the hotel is a very awesome cafe that offers a lot more than just great coffee and danishes. Also nearby is Koreatown or Korean Way. Lots of little cafes, sushi bars, and funky markets.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 4 of 157Interesting hotel
Convenient location. The main problem was that we were on the 7th floor and the elevator was not functioning properly. It was quicker to walk down the stairs than wait for the elevator. Room tidy and had an antique claw-foot tub in it. They had obviously redone the room recently with new tile and carpet. No view as windows faced a blank wall five feet away.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 157What I Expected
I knew it probably wouldn't be the most luxurious hotel based on other reviews, but the convenient location and price was good. The room was small, the mattress was extremely uncomfortable, and the bathroom was down the hall and was shared with others (the condition of the bathroom was ok, seemed updated with slate tile). Also, there were only 3 outlets, all originating from an extension cord. My cousin and I had to take turns charging our cell phones. It was what I expected: neither great nor horrible. Good enough if you're looking for a place to lay your head while running around NYC til 3 and 4 in the morning. Can't say I wouldn't book again, but would like to try some other place around the corner.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 157Good value, Fantastic location, old hotel
My experience was exactly what I expected. The hotel was very old, but maintained, moderately clean. Not the most comfortable bed in the world. There was a problem with my room being ready-- but the staff was very accommodating, and things were sorted out to my satisfaction. The location however is spectacular-- right off 5th avenue, easy access to everything. I was in town for a trade show in the Washington Square area, and this was an easy walk for me (on a beautiful Indan Summer week in NYC.

Not a good hotel to stay at

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 157A lot of character
While most hotels in Manhattan run well over $300 per night for a room with a private bathroom the Latham did not, thankfully. Most people don't spend enough time in their room to warrant paying such astronomical room costs. We spent one night at the hotel and found that the room had a lot of character, the staff friendly and the location very convenient. Our room, linens and towels were clean - you could smell a hint of bleach on the towels. We weren't swayed by any of the other occupants most of whom seemed to be young, international travelers. I would stay there again and I would recommend it. It was certainly worth the price, relatively speaking, of course.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 9 of 157Great location, Great price
The Latham is a small Hotel on 28th and 5th, right in the heart of the action! It was small but very clean. It was our first experience with a shared bathroom and it was not bad at all. The subway is close and you can walk to Times Square and many other attractions. We enjoyed our stay.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 10 of 157Needs a few improvements- but still a good choice
The check in/out process was very easy and fast. The Elevator took a quite a while to get from floor to floor. Some of the rooms were used as apartment rooms so there were some loud kids and yelling moms. One of the nights, a cockroach came out from under the bed, i just killed it and moved on. I also wished there would have had Ironing boards, They were only able to provide us with irons. Being that we spent all day out on the streets, we didnt mind these minor in conveniences.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 157Needs lots of Improvement
This by far is the worst hotel I have been to in my 27 years of living and I have traveled all over the world. First problem was the fact that we had to use a community shower and we werent informed and we diddnt have shower shoes with us. That was very nasty and unsanitary. Next problem we faced was the fact that we found bugs in our bed. We diddnt recive money back that day all we got was a letter claiming that we will get a full refund for the room. The fact that there was bugs in the sheets shows that the sheets were proably not changed and that the hotel cleanliness was not up to standard. I do not recommend this hotel for anyone it is below a one star hotel. I cant believe for the price we paid we had to share a shower and bathroom with a whole floor of people. Its just disgusting to find bugs in a bed your suppose to sleep in and no accomdations where made until we got really upset and demanded a refund. I suggest as I told the person I talked to on the phone from hotels.com that this hotel should not be on the site. I know its a 1 1/2 star hotel but this was just disgusting.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 14 of 157great deal for the money
For the price, it's a great deal. it all depends on what floor you get and the location of the room. I would stay there again for that price.

Great location. Otherwise, the worst travel experience of my life. Smelled strongly of armpits snd pine cleaner. Dark spooky hallways. No hot water in the mildewed shower. Air con made weird noises all night. Some sort of homeless shelter for women and children located inside the building. Next time I'll spend the extra money and stay somewhere else.
