Beautiful

La Mariposa was a wonderful experience. The hotel itself it beautiful with a wraparound infinity pool in the jungle overlooking the ocean and our ocean view room had a lovely terrace with a hammock. It's very well located to the center of town yet peaceful. The upper pool includes a bar you can swim to. My main recommendation for them would be better service. At times I felt the staff could have been more efficiently attentive given the price point. Also - our bed was two double beds attached together which didn't make for the most comfortable sleep. Overall though, I would definitely recommend this place and on a whole it exceeded my expectations.

La Mariposa Exceeded All Expections

Originally I wanted to stay at Si Como No but it was booked due to High Holy Week. Thank heavens for 2nd choices. The room was fabulous (no t.v. great) but free wi-fi in our room above the lobby. Food, staff, pool, bars, sunsets, other guests all were great. My sights were set down a notch but if far exceeded them and was a fabulous time. Lesson learned regarding going in Manuel Antonio National Park. When you drive to the park, folks with official looking uniforms and whistles, force you to park on a public street, near the beach and street vendors and tell you to book your tour guide with them @ $20 per person. DON'T do that. Drive to the front of the park to see how far it is to walk, then drive back to the public street and park a bit further away, it is a public street and they charge unsuspecting tourists $4. The guide they provided us was different from the one we were told we'd have. They added us to another group of tourists..total of 5. Which is a problem as you all have to share one telescope to view the animals. My advice is go all the way to the park entrance gate, where you pay the $10 per person admission and speak with one of the tour guides there, wearing an official logo on his shirt and make sure you can understand him. Our guide was in such a hurry to get us out of the park that we left our group and just moved from telescope to telescope of other groups to see what they were looking at in the trees or forests. Do get a guide, but don't get bamboozeled.

Incredible View, Wonderful Pools

Just got back from a one-week vacation at La Mariposa. It's positioned on the top of the hill overlooking both the Manuel Antonio beach and Quepos Bay. I don't believe that hotels to the south of this one were able to get such amazing sunset views like Mariposa at this time of the year. Even if you don't stay here, come for the sunsets without a doubt! Anyway, my wife and I somehow managed to book a room through hotels.com, two weeks before the trip. We booked a Standard Ocean View Room (room 25). The room was perfectly fine for us. We actually were surprised that the room had a satellite television, as we were preparing for no tv at all. I believe only a few rooms in this hotel have the TV. It was a bonus in a room already equipped with an as-promised gorgeous view from our terrace. Other notes on the room. Some people like firm beds, we particularly didn't love the firmness of ours. Their actually was another single bed in the room that was way more comfortable than the queen. Also the A/C unit occasionally would make loud noises and spit out water...this happened only two nights out of the six nights we were there. Just an FYI on that. The pools are amazing here. Some of the nicest pools I've ever been in. When you combine an infinite pool, with an expansive view, with warm water, and beautiful landscaping on the pool grounds you've got the ingredients for perfection. Plus it's really cool when the squirrel monkeys come by! The free breakfast was adequate. Omlettes, fresh fruit, juices, etc. This is exactly what we expected. We didn't eat lunch at the hotel, but we had dinner the first night there. I had a steak which was quite good, my wife's mahi mahi wasn't as good as others we had later in the trip, but still not bad. Overall drinks and food are definitely a bit pricey at this hotel. In fact, we were thinking we would be getting bargain prices at the restaurants throughout our trip in the Manuel Antonio area, as we have had when we've travelled to Mexico

Overpriced with lousy service

Our room didn't have hot water initially. AC remote control didn't work, neither did the TV remote. They sent someone trying to fix it but gave up after a couple of attemps. Staff clearly has an attitude, maybe only penhouse guests can get some attention. Hotel pool is very nice, althought a bit on the small side. view was good. it's located on a very dusty road with lots of contructions going on, and kinda far to other attractions. It does have a free shuttle service to send people to the national park or town but it only runs every 2 hours and 3 times a day. Overall, I dont think it's worth the price tag and would definitely consider a place closer to the park and beach next time if we do go back.

Great hotel

The view was spectacular. If you can afford it, I recommend an ocean view room. The breakfast was also very good. It is located in close proximity to everything.

A Jewel in paradise

La Mariposa Hotel has a stunningly beautiful view, and is located just off the main road. My fiancé and I were able to walk to several restaurants and bars from the hotel. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. Their breakfast was fantastic, and the ocean views are second to none. I would highly recommend this hotel.

What a View!

My husband and I stayed at La Mariposa at the beginning of the "Green" season and were very impressed. The view from the hotel (and our room - #10) was breathtaking. The staff are friendly and helpful, the dinners are delectable (particularly the fish dishes), and Manuel Antonio is a short, complimentary ride away.
