Kyoto Tokyu Hotel

The service at the Kyoto Tokyu Hotel is excellent. Staff is courteous and very welcoming. Location is great being very close to Kyoto Station and a short taxi ride to the center of shopping areas.

Not the hotel for tourists

The Tokyu Hotel was nice, clean and chic. However, it is inconveniently located for tourists (not close to any subway and quite a walk to most buses). As a result, I ended up using taxis during most of my stay, which in Japan are not cheap. The only upside is that one of the most popular sightseeing companies picks up passengers from this hotel. Overall, this hotel seemed to better suit business travelers. The people who work there did not speak much English and did not have much helpful information in terms of directions, tourist sites, etc. They could not even make bookings for us.

Great Hotel, just not near any trains or subways

If you are okay with paying for the taxi, this is not conveniently located to the shopping or temple areas. HOWEVER, awesome hotel, great rooms and fantastic service. Loved staying here, and didn't mind taking the cab.
