Trip Type: Special Event Review 1 of 226Room Comfort/Essex Junior Suite
At first I was given a substandard room on 4th floor. I went to the desk and it was changed to exactly what I wanted on the 8th floor. The Kingsize bed was the most comfortable we have ever had in a hotel. The bathroom was outstanding, exactly what I expect from a junior suite separate large shower and large bathtub. Towels were lush as well as robes and slippers. They actually had woman sized slippers!!!! The room had motion sensors so at night if you woke-up you had floor lights go off for safty! Loved It!

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 4 of 2267 AM JACK HAMMER WAKE-UP CALL
Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel itself, especially it's location. The room was comfortable and clean. After touring all day, dinner and a play each evening, we like to wake up late. The hotel receptionist should have been honest and explained why he offered us a room on a higher floor.....of course, at a higher rate. Being on the 3rd floor, it felt like the jack-hammer was right beneath us. Even after making an inquiry call to Guest Services, we were not offered a room change. I should have been more assertive, but also knew that the sidewalk repairs were beyond the hotel's control. Other hotels in the area were also in the same predicament. Neither could the hotel have known 7 months in advance, when I made the reservations, if there would have been any jack hammering at 7 am every day. No real solution, totally tired.....but loved NY!

This hotel is in a great location. We got an upgrade on our room. The spa was able to accomodate our last minute requests for massages.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 226superb service
The staff is very friendly and attentive, exactly what you expect from a top hotel. Rooms are updated, clean, quiet and very comfortable. And a decent size for NY standards. The subway is just a short walk to Columbus Circle, making it very convenient. Lots of stores, restaurants in the area and Central Park is just across the street, go for a job in the morning.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 226Terrific hotel in a terrific location
Very interesting, historic hotel that's been well maintained and updated. The staff was very helpful and efficient. I especially like what they've done with the room lighting to make it more environmentally friendly. Wish there had been coffee available without ordering it from room service.

Trip Type: Business Review 13 of 226Great location, but poorly managed
I had high expectations from this hotel, but I ended up being diapointed from the dayly issues - mainly from poor managment. Every day - there was something missing in the room for which we needed to call numerous times. It took forever to get even ice delivered. At 7 AM- we were woken up from an unbearable street construction noice. At the end of our stay- we were charged with a Bar bill and Parking bill, although we never used either of them. The Manager conducted an "Investigation" for 6 hours without resolution. We will need to contact our Credit card instead to request the fake charges to be removed. Not to mention that for 45 seconds phone call to a cell phone in Virginia- we were charged $ 10,55. The prices of the room calls are not listed anywhere.

Trip Type: Romance Review 14 of 226great hotel
The hotel and staff were outstanding! The hotel gave us a complimentary suite upgrade when we arrived which was a nice touch. My only gripe was the $100.00 breakfast for two...a bit over the top! Overall it was great place to stay.

Trip Type: Romance Review 15 of 226Great location, little privacy
This is a clean, modern hotel in a great location, but the rooms lack privacy. In the morning we were woken up (on a Sunday) at 8:45 with a knock from housecleaning (check-out was noon), and continued to hear doors banging, conversations, etc. from the hallway throughout the morning.
