Could Have Been Charming - WASN'T

From photos I thought this might be a charming old-style Polynesian hotel. It wasn't charming except for the view from the lobby before you go inside. That is where the charm ends. Staff could not have been less helpful - even with basic questions. Carpet in room was buckled and dirty. Room was very musty. Location is fun - on Shelter Island. Not a value for the money.

Nice place to stay

Humphrey's is very nice but needs a little more renovation. Our room was clean but the carpet is very worn. The bathrooms are nice and the room was spacious. The hotel restuarant is VERY good, both food and service, with good entertainment in the evenings. Humphrey's is conveniently located to everything in the San Diego area. We especially like watching the big and little ships come and go from the harbor and the city and bridge views from our bay side room.

Outstanding Hotel

The hotel is situated right on San Diego Bay, you can watch the cruise- recreational- and naval ships enter and exit the harbor. Lots of restaurants close the property, within walking distance. The hotel service was excellent, the pool and "green" located on the grounds were scenic & private. Downtown (Gaslamp), La Jolla, San Diego Zoo, and Coronado were no more than 15 minutes away

Loved it .

We stayed in room 425. Completely renovated. It was awesome. I wanted to move in. The view from the room was great. Lovely hotel ! Loved every moment of it . Will stay again for sure.

Tropical Paradise

Went for the Beach Boys concert. Stayed in room 160. Awesome COMPLETELY renovated room. Extremely comfortable bed and the bathroom was nicely appointed. Highly recommend to anyone. Oh yeah, the bar rocks on Friday night, but you couldn't hear a thing from our room. Front desk girls were also very helpful and friendly.

Parking horrible

Besides paying an additional $10 per night for parking, it was seldom ever close to the room that we got at the farther end of the hotel. Floor cleanliness could also be better.

Not quite perfect

Great price for the stay. Our first room had a very musty/moldy smell. We requested a change which was handled with no problem. There is a $10 per day fee for parking which feels like an undisclosed rip-off. Otherwise, it's a great property in a great location.

Great as always

Humphrey's is a San Diego tradition. Located on Shelter Island, there is a fantastic view of the harbor and downtown just across the street. Rooms are classy and spotless. If you can find a discounted rate, it's a steal.

Needs improvement

When I called from the airport to get a shuttle pick up, the person who answered said he did not know when he would be able to get me as he was the only one there at the desk. So I had to take a taxi to the tune of $15. The lights outside the group of rooms where mine was located did not work. The wireless interned did not work.
