The carpet had bad stains on the rug and the room smelled of dampness.

Trip Type: Family Review 4 of 23Much worse than the average Howard Johnson
I understand that a Howard Johnson is not supposed to be a fancy hotel, but my stay in this particular hotel was much worse than the average Howard Johnson. Several of the rooms, including ours, are located in a side building underneath the private residence of the familiy who runs the hotel. There was a lot of noise coming from the upstairs as late as 11 PM and as early as 6 AM. TV was always on and quite audible through the ceiling. We had small children who were constantly waking up due to the noises coming from the upstairs. The chain-like door on the hotel room broke the first time we used it, simply from the force of our 2 year old son pulling on the door. They didn't fix it until late the next afternoon and told me we had broken it. Okay, if a 2 year old can break the lock by pulling on the door, it was already broken. When I addressed these concerns to the staff, they were immediately defensive and accused me of lying because I just wanted to get out of my pre-paid reservation. They told me there was no way to change rooms even though most rooms in the hotel were obviously empty at the time. Because we had prepaid, they refused to let us leave and go to another hotel. I called hotels.com and tried to cancel, but the hotel managers refused to release payment so we were stuck there. Not everything was bad. The housekeeping was great. Still, I would not recommend staying here to anyone.

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 23Good choice if nothing else is available
This is a perfectly fine motel on the outskirts of Williamstown. For the price, there are nicer options in the area, if you plan ahead. However, we made reservations at the last minute, and this was the last room available. On the plus side, the room was quiet and clean. The towels were a little skimpy and the furniture (chairs, sofa) were a bit uncomfortable. We didn't go into the pool, but it looked like a good place to cool off if you've been driving all day. About a mile from the center of the village [walkable] and 10 minutes from the center of North Adams.

Outdated, dim interiors Very cramped shower "stall" "Breakfast" under-supplied and under-staffed Although room appeared clean, it had a "damp" smell Extremely narrow and dimly lit hallway in detached addition

I was traveling with my child, without my husband and did not feel safe. We had a room that was on the first floor with a door that was supposed to be an indoor cooridor, however the door was propped open. We ended up staying at another hotel in a town close by.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 11 of 23Totally Unexpected
A month ago we stayed at the Howard Johnsons Express in Lenox and were not happy at all. On this trip we chose the Howard Johnsons Inn in Williamstown due to the rates being in our price range. I was very hesitant to book, but the hotel impressed. We were in the new wing and our room was comfortable and quiet. The pool area was nice as well.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 23Nice Surprise
Great value for the money. In an area that is mostly serviced by higher end b and b's or hotels, this proved to be a great room for a great night. We were skiing nearby, so really only needed a place to sleep and relax. The room was perfect for our needs

If you're like me, you pretty much think you know what you're going to get when you stay at a HoJo's - something cheap, and hopefully tolerable. However, if you stay at this HoJo's, prepare to be impressed. The room exceeded our expectations, the grounds were beautiful (it features a nice pool, and lovely perennial garden), and the service was fantastic! I have never met a more motivated, and good-natured staff in any hotel of any rating (including the many 4-star hotels I've stayed in over the years). I highly recommend the Howard Johnson Williamstown to anyone. It will surprise and delight you.

We reserved this hotel for a week because of its price and the convenience at first. To our surprise, we received much more than wee expected. We got a very spacious room on the second floor with nice view and a complimentary fridge. The manager and his staff were very nice and helpful. The breakfast includes basic breakfast food plus hot waffle (even chocolate waffle for our kids!)and fresh fruit. The dining area is clean and nice. The room is not in style but very practical. I especially love the way they treated our children. They had earned our sincere recommendation to all who travel with small children. As Dr. Seuss said, "A person is a person, no matter how small." I am happy that they share the same view as us!
