Description
See more detailsLocation. The Hotelito Desconocido adjoins a nature preserve, borders an estuary and fronts a pristine beach 97 kilometers from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Hotel Features. By raising a signal flag, guests indicate their desire to receive complimentary coffee and cookies each morning. The hotel's rustic restaurant, El Cantarito, is built on stilts over the estuary. The bar is modeled after an old-fashioned drugstore, with an assortment of beers and liquors lining the walls rather than medicines. Nopolito is an ultra-casual club that serves tropical drinks in an al fresco beachside location. Billiards are played in the club by candlelight. This resort may be remote, but it offers a full range of activities. Water sports include kayaking, wind surfing and canoeing. Other activities feature seasonal turtle hatchling release programs, horseback riding along the beach, cycling, hiking, beach volleyball, bird-watching tours, or simply relaxing by the outdoor pool. Beach bonfires are lit on select evenings. El Mundo de la Salud offers spa treatments that include Shiatsu, hot stone, aromatherapy and mud-bath techniques. The spa's signature Mermaid Bath uses French Polynesian plant roots, sea salt and essential oils.
Guestrooms. This resort features 24 "Palafitos," or bungalows, constructed in the style of a historic Mexican fishing village. Beds feature luxury linens and gauzy netting, romantically illuminated by candlelight. Décor is modeled after Mexican-lottery images, and bathrooms consist of bamboo showers. The lagoon section of this resort houses three master suites, five Palafito suites and five individual rooms. Twelve additional Palafitos are located on the resort's private beach.
Expert Tip. The eco-friendly Hotelito Desconocido operates on the principles of a simple life, using solar power, only. There is no electricity, no phone service, no Internet access and no television. Bungalows features small solar generators that power ceiling fans. At night, hundreds of candles and torches light the public areas, walkways and rooms.
