    This was a nice hotel in a nice neighborhood, away from a lot of the noise of downtown Manhattan. The room was very clean but small. The bathroom was clean and just updated. The bed linens were very nice, however, one complaint I have about this hotel was the mattress, and it was one of the worst I have ever slept on in a hotel. It appears the hotel is being renovated, so hopefully the mattresses are also being replaced.

    I liked Hotel Wales well enough. It was a good location for my business on the upper east side. The rooftop terrace is quite lovely. I liked the continental breakfast and the fact that it was served at no additional charge. The neighborhood has several nice restaurants as well as other businesses and services that I patronized. My queen-sized room was very dark and small, though the bath was spacious. Please be warned, too, that the hotel is undergoing extensive renovations, which is noisy.

Location. The Victorian-style Hotel Wales is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York, N.Y. The hotel is positioned one block from Central Park and Fifth Avenue's Museum Mile. The International Center of Photography stands two blocks from the hotel.

Hotel Features. A rooftop-garden terrace affords views of the Upper East Side and the East River, and is the site of daily complimentary continental breakfast service. The hotel's restaurant, Sarabeth's, serves American cuisine and provides limited-hour room service. A 10th-floor business center houses two computer stations and provides complimentary coffee and tea. A small, complimentary fitness room is open during limited hours and contains free weights and cardiovascular equipment. Pets are allowed at this property, for a fee.

Guestrooms. The 10-story Hotel Wales offers 87 guestrooms equipped with wireless Internet access for a fee, and MP3 adaptors. Complimentary Fiji bottled water is provided on the first day of stay. Bathrooms contain Frette Italian bathrobes. An on-site DVD library offers movie rentals for use with in-room DVD players. In-room safes are complimentary.
