Elegant, stylish, but not comfortable

I stayed two nights in a king room and, as expected, it was very stylish. The service was prompt but no one offered to assist with luggage. The room was large enough and there was sufficient workspace for a laptop with a free high speed Internet connection. I did have issues with the comfort level. First, there is no comfortable chair in the room. The desk chair is stylish plastic and hard. There was a couch in the room but it also was uncomfortable to sit on. The bed was king size and the sheets and pillows were fine, but the bed itself was hard and very low. I noticed that there was no box spring which may be why the bed was uncomfortable. The bathroom is very dark with black walls and spot lighting. The stall shower did not have a door so the water splashed on the floor outside of the the shower. Again, nice to look at but not practical. On the positive side, there is a wide screen TV and an iPod player in the room. There is a wonderful coffee machine in the lobby and a room with PCs that can be used to access the Internet.

All the hype is true! LOVED this place!

I was a little skeptical of PURhotel, mainly because I am not a fan of the minimalist aesthetic. I expected it to look like the Starship Enterprise and have a snooty staff with fake German accents. It wasn't at all. While definitely modern, it didn't feel cold. I would say the overall decor and vibe felt like an upscale Ikea or West Elm, and there were plants in the lobby, which made it feel fresh and friendly. The staff was very nice and helpful without being too friendly or fake. There is valet parking, which was great, as I was running late. The bathtub was fantastic--super-deep with tons of hot water that lasted the full length of my very long bath and shower, and a cool modern handheld showerhead [that attached as well]. I didn't have a terrific view, but the floor-to-ceiling windows still gave a wonderful, open feel. The bed was very comfortable. I had free wifi. I used the gym, which had what I needed--treadmills, weights, universal. Wanted to use the pool but didn't have time. It was lovely, large and only one other person was using it. There's a sauna, too. Oh, and the cappuccino machine was pretty cool, but I am a coffee snob and it wasn't as delicious and robust as I like. However, the consistency of the cappy was spot on. Also, I think there's a bar/lounge but I didn't see it. I'm sure it's cool. I liked that there wasn't a lot of storage or furniture in the room--made me feel very unencumbered. My ONLY 2 complaints were there were no hair dryers in the room or bathrobes. That would have been a nice 'gourmet' touch. And the hallways are too dark, although they do have enormous room numbers painted on the doors, so you can't miss them. The feel of the hallways was almost reminiscent of being on a ship. I really didn't mind it. Didn't even think to touch any of the mini-bar stuff. There was a great selection, including wine and chocolates, but they were insanely expensive. I wouldn't call this a super-luxury hotel with at-your-beck-and-call concierge

Very well located, modern & clean

Pros: at a walking distance from the train/bus station (one doesn't need to climb the hill between the station and the city centre), in the Saint Roch area (with some of the few restaurants that close a bit later), clean, attentive service. Cons: air conditioning didn't work properly (wouldn't cool enough), bathroom without adequate ventilation (had to shower with door open). Overall: I would stay there again if I find again such a competitive rate.

Outstanding Hotel

The Pru is a very modern and exceptionally clean hotel and well maintained hotel. It's located in the lower city, and within easy walking to the upper city. I was there on vacation and walked everywhere. I would stay there again without hesitation.

Great for the young and hip

It is a cool ultra modern looking hotel. It was fun and in a really great neighborhood to explore for local lunch, wide-ranging dinner, and a little night life. Don't park at the hotel, plenty of cheap garage parking nearby on the weekends...

A very unusual but nice place

A soon as you walk in the lobby you know this not your usual hotel. To say that it is spartan is an understatement. The color scheme is mostly black and white and very modern (artistically). The hallways and rooms are in keeping with the overall motif. The only real negative was the lack of drawer space in the rooms. The staff was helpful and responsive. The location was excellent for those who don't wish to pay the outragious prices of the old city. It is a fairly easy walk to most cites as long as you don't mind the Quebec city hills. Overall, we would stay there again

Excellent Surprise

I recently stayed at the Hotel Pur for 3 nights while attending a conference in Quebec City. The overall experience was outstanding and the room and accommodations exceeded my expectations by a fair bit. The front desk staff were excellent and very helpful with local knowledge, directions, and maps. I would certainly stay at Pur again and highly recommend it as a very high quality choice that is half the rate of big chain 3-4 star hotels.

We loved the coffee machine.

We thought it looked like this was going to be a neat place to stay, and it certainly was. I'm a big fan of the design aesthetic that they had going on here, but I can see how one might be annoyed if you're just not into that kind of thing. There were just a couple of points on which we thought common sense was sacrificed for the sake of keeping within the design aesthetic: 1) The fancy, pretty glass shower wall does not keep water from spattering out onto the floor on occasion, though it probably depends on the showerer - I was much less messy than my husband. 2) It took us a while to figure out how to turn on the little bedside lamp, because the switch is on the cord, which is neatly tucked away in a hole in the nightstand (going along with the streamlined modernist aesthetic), so you have to pull the cord out in order to find it. It just seemed rather silly. But little quirks like this aside, we appreciated getting to spend a few days pretending that our lives are as streamlined as this place. The pool was lovely, the lobby/entrance area felt very chic, and the self-serve espresso/cappuccino/latte machine was awesome. There is a little alcove around the corner from the main entrance where you can help yourself to coffee and tea as often as you like, at any hour of the day, and it's a lot of fun even just to watch the coffee machine work after you push a button requesting your beverage of choice. Our neighborhood felt very safe, and we didn't mind the hike to get to and from the old part of the city. Staying here was a bit of a splurge for us, but we're glad we did.
