Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 58Great place to begin vacation in Costa Rica
The cleanliness and appearance of the hotel was fabulous. The interior and exterior decor were impressive; the photos in the advertisement were quite accurate. The lobby as well as the restaurant capture your eyes and you may begin to take decorating tips from the time you step in. The room was quiet, absolutely clean and comfortable. It did not appear that they were cheap on the bedding (a great sleep). This hotel should be listed as one of the great places to stay while in San Jose.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 58Amazing Hotel
Hotel Grano de Oro was an amazing hotel! The entire staff working there was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and the decor was absolutely lovely. The hotel restaurant is a must, the food was the best I've had in Costa Rica and very reasonably priced. The only negative I could say is that it is a bit far from the city center and the neighborhood not so nice, but the hotel itself, the staff, restaurant, and overall experience at the Grano de Oro more than make up for it. I would Highly recommend this hotel!

Very classy place - this is a former private mansion just a few blocks from the center of the city, with a fabulous lobby / bar / restaurant / indoor courtyard that tempt you to skip a walk around the city. Elegant but interesting cuisine, and a sundeck/jacuzzi patio that feels private. Prior reviewers worried about the neighborhood, which I found pretty average - not at all dangerous. And there are plenty of staff to help with a taxi or query for recommendations. We also liked that this was close enough to the airport and city, but not in the hubbub. We'll be back!

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 5 of 58Great place to stay!
Stayed first and last nights in Costa Rica. Lovely hotel. No A/C, but great breezes that kept it cool enough while we were there in September. Definitely eat at the restaurant! All the food was delicious.

I can't say enough good things about the hotel. We stayed there our first and last night of our trip to Costa Rica and it was a perfect way to start and end the trip. The rooms are beautiful, beds are very comfy. The staff is super accommodating, and were very eager to answer our many questions. The Hotel restaurant is excellent, the food is very good high end food, prices weren't too bad for an upscale restaurant. All in all, I think this hotel is excellent and would highly recommend staying here!

Trip Type: Family Review 8 of 58good hotel, great restaurant
there's no a/c but a nice breeze comes through, so long as you dont mind sacrificing your privacy: the windows open on to the walk ways. phenomenal restaurant. breakfast isnt free but its worth it to indulge in gorgeous surroundings and the prices are nowhere near as high as they would be in an american or european restaurant so elegant. even if you dont stay at the hotel - dinner there is a must. good gift shop too with all the same things you find anywhere else in costa rica.

Amazing restaurant well worth the price for the food and ambiance. Great service and charming rooms. A bit of a walk to the central market. no ice in rooms. limited internet access. overall, great stay.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 58I would never stay anyplace else in San Jose
The restaurant is spectacular with respect to food quality, service, and atmosphere, clearly the best in Costa Rica. While there is no air conditioning, do not let that stop you from coming to Grano de Oro. My husband who grew up in Texas cannot imagine a world without AC. But, the cool night air in the middle of August in San Jose, and the overhead fan, allowed him to sleep as comfortably as with AC. The Victorian design, the antiques and oriental carpets in the room were absolutely charming.

We stayed here for one night. The Hotel is very nice and the people were friendly. The rooftop lounge area is very cute. Overall we were very impressed with the hotel. Although it was a little pricey.

What a great hotel, the restaurant serves an amazing breakfast, in what feels like little Italy, an open air area inside the restaurant. We stayed two nights, one on our way in and one on the way out of San Jose, for our Honeymoon. We would have stayed longer and would have gotten an upgraded room. For summer it was surprising nice with the breeze that seems to flow through the openness of the hotel.
