Overpriced but convenient hotel

If you must stay in Berkeley near Cal, this is fine, convenient and clean. It tries to be tongue-in-cheek but the hotel is just adequate, location is boring, and it is more price-y than it deserves.

A real experience

The experience of staying at Hotel Durant realy added to the fun of our vacation. Great experience!

A real gem

is a small hotel a block from the Berkeley campus. The word "boutique" applies - the rooms are well appointed and the staff first rate.

Great location to UC Berkeley

This hotel exceeded our expectations for what we paid for. The customer service was outstanding and the entire hotel was very clean, you could see the constant upkeep. The only thing that I could complain about was that the room was a tad bit small but for an older hotel (considering the area) I somewhat expected it.

Cozy, great central location, friendly staff

Small but gorgeous rooms and no A/C are to be expected, given the hotel's age. (A/C is only an issue a few nights in August with Berkeley's weather, though.) V. nice staff, v. helpful when we (and a few others) had an unexplained issue with the ceiling fan light: it turned on mysteriously at 9am and wouldn't stay off - not a great wake up call when dealing with jet lag! Windows dampen pretty much all noise from Top Dog and other late night spots below, and the renovations are wonderful - great if you want to be near Cal without renting a car.

Really small room!

The queen room is so small the drawers in the dresser hit the bed when opened and there is barely enough room to walk ...you can sit on the bed and wash your hands in the sink (which is oddly beside the bed and not in the bathroom)!

Close to UC Berkeley, Clean and Friendly staffs

We love the location of the hotel and parking is close and easy with reasonalbe fee. Room is clean and no air condition is not a problem at night even in August (I was worry about that). Room is smaller than normal hotel room but okay for us. There are two things that I feel can be improved 1. Bathroom paper is too close to toilet (your right arm has no place to go other than sit on top of it). 2. Hair dryer core is too short (unless you want to sit on the toilet and use it).

Excellent service!

The service was exceptionally helpful, from arranging my room, to answering questions about transportation. The room was spacious and quiet, with an unexpected light breakfast on Saturday. I recommend this hotel highly.

A great place with character

I arrived late, but found the most joyful persons at the desk. The pub was still lively. My room was obviously and old one, but nicely renovated. The bed was really comfortable. A great Berkeley experience.

excellent service and location

i was very pleased with the hotel - particularly the service (wonderful and friendly staff who go out of their way to accomodate). we loved the location - so close to the Berkely campus. our only complaint was that the room was warm (openning the windows helped and the overhead fan) - but it was still quite hot in the room. (august dates).
