Never again...

We had to move rooms after half an hour because the toilet was leaking badly -fair enough, that happens - but the a/c was far too noisy in the new room. The whole night carousing revellers ran shouting up and down all the corridors and we finally gave in and phoned the desk to complain at 4.30 to be told that they had called the police and nothing else could be done. The hotel is situated about fifty feet from a freeway up and down which there were impromptu motorbike races all night long. The perfectly pleasant desk clerk the next morning took the parking charge off our bill as some form of compensation. Memorably awful stay.

Overall a great experience

I surprised my boyfriend with a little romantic get-away for his birthday, and the Hotel Derek was a great choice. The furnishings and style of both the common areas and the room were very warm and modern. The bed was comfy, and we lucked out with a fantastic view (we didn't book a City View room). The location is great, with the Galleria only about a 15 minute walk away. We did use the complimentary shuttle once, but found the valet staff a bit rude and surprisingly not very knowledgeable about the nightlife in the area. The pool area is very nicely done, but is very small. The complimentary wi-fi went out for part of our trip at, of course, the worst time for us, but the staff were very helpful in getting us the information we needed. My only other complaint is that the sliding bathroom door, while stylish, does not give the feeling of much privacy. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and will probably return in the future.

Not all it's cracked up to be...Girls Weekend was a bust

When I first arrived at Hotel Derek the staff greeted me and answered questions. The bellman assisted with the carts and took them to the room. I expected the room to be more spacious for the money I paid. Also, I was told there was a complimentary luxury shuttle service to hotspots within a 3 mile radius which was true, but I wasn't informed that the service stopped at 11pm. I planned a girls weekend that included dining, dancing, and drinking. We had to forego the drinking when we were forced to drive ourselves to and from the nightclub. Overall the staff was friendly and helpful, but there was nothing that stood out about Hotel Derek. The deal breaker was the room size compared to the cost. I will not be staying there again and I wouldn't recommend it to others.

This Hotel is real Ghetto, it seems like they host a nest of pimps and H*e's. It felt like a lot of the FEMA people are still in the Hotel and I could have sworn this place host's a ring of ho*kers. I like a nice party vibe with good looking people but this plce was just GHETTO. Nice location that's it. Have fun....

Nice boutique hotel

The room was huge and modern, and the service was good. The hotel bar was always busy and the hotel has a good atmosphere overall.

Hotel was very nice. Clean, contemporary/modern, etc. None of the valet spoke (or wrote) English very well, and was consistently slow. Whenever we called to have valet bring the car up, it was never there when we arrived and thy all acted as if there was no call made. Front desk was froendly, but totally clueless as to the local attractions or conveniences. Hallway noise bled into the room quite a bit. If you're looking for quite, this is not the place. Nice hotel, but probably won't go back.

Nice Hotel - expensive parking

The hotel itself is pretty nice and the rooms were very clean. However I thought the parking was very expensive. There is no place to self park so you have to do valet which is $19/day (as many in and outs as you want), however I felt obligated to tip the valet bringing the parking rate over $20/day. It's a tricky location to get a car in and out of since it's on the corner of a VERY busy intersection. I got a great deal on this hotel so I can't complain, I would look elsewhere though if it was closer to full price. I was disappointed by the pool, it was very small! No hot tub either.

Horrible Customer Service and the rooms are hot!

The lady at the front desk need to go back and get come more customer service training. Our room was on 66 and it was still warm. Also, they don't offer bell service which I don't quite understand.

For the deal, it was worth it...

On life's list of fun things to do, my inlaws coming to visit falls somewhere BELOW sitting in a tub full of scissors. Worse yet, is when they don't call before they arrive! So needless to say, I needed a place to run to for the night that was close by. I personally live in the Houston area and I've been to hotel Derek's lounge/bar but never stayed in the hotel. I have to say I was impressed for the sweet deal I got on the room. it was quiet, comfortable (although the bed could have been a little softer) and the service was great. Like most inner houston hotels, parking is extra. The room was clean and well appointed with a wonderful view. I considered staying at hotel ZaZa (a newly renovated hotel; very modern and shiek), but for half the price I stayed at Derek. If you're looking for a deal, Hotel Derek is great via hotels.com and it earns its 4 star rating. If you're looking for a really nice hotel and you're willing to pay for it, splurge for the Icon or ZaZa

Good Hotel, great people

I office near the Hotel Derek and would recommend it to anyone looking for a Hotel that offers great location, value and service.
