See more detailsLocation. The Hotel Colonne is located in the village of Sacro Monte, in Varese, Italy, within the Campo dei Fiori Natural Park, 500 metres from the 14 chapels of Sacro Monte Varese and 20 kilometres from Lake Maggiore. Varese train station is four kilometres away, and Milan Malpensa Airport is 47 kilometres distant.
Hotel Features. Built as a hotel in 1921, The Hotel Colonne retains many original features, with a view from its terrace over the mountains and the lake. Wireless Internet is available, there is 24-hour front desk and room service, and parking is complimentary.
The hotel's Colonne Brasserie serves complimentary breakfast, and offers simple traditional food, with fresh pasta and polenta and homemade cakes for lunch and dinner. All are served in a homely atmosphere with candlelight and a veranda. The Colonne Restaurant serves traditional Varesina cuisine, such as Roccia Mussels, Taragna Polenta, and Fish in Lime Tempura. The atmosphere is relaxed and decor traditional, with a panoramic terrace. On Friday nights jazz is played.
A meeting room is available for conferences and there are business services.
Nearby activities include bird watching, golfing, horse riding, and tennis. Bikes and scooters can also be rented nearby.
Guestrooms. The 10 guestrooms at Hotel Colonne have individual fittings, wallpapers, and antique furnishings. Each room has a television, fridge, phone, and safe. Private terraces with deck chairs give views over the lakes, and superior rooms have small lounges with couches. Wireless Internet is available throughout.
Expert Tip. The 14 chapels of Sacro Monte Varese are set along a mountain path, begun in construction in 1604. The chapels were built and dedicated to the mysteries of the Rosary. The Campo dei Fiori is covered in forests of chestnut and beech and has underground caves, some still unexplored.
