    I chose Hotel Catedral because it was one of the lowest priced hotels in Almeria, but it also looked like it had great character and a gorgeous setting. I was very happy with this hotel. It was right next door to the famous Cathedral on a huge plaza. The restaurant had patio seating at night and an indoor bar and restaurant. The rooms were modern and spacious. Each room had a computer with internet access, but also wifi available. The hotel was clean, quiet, and had many upgrades. Free bottles of water on each floor, fresh flowers, many "pretty" things. The reception hosts did not speak strong English, but were able to understand my needs. My only concern was the neighborhood seemed to be a bit dicey. I don't know that it really was, but it wasn't in the hub of the restaurant and bar area. Since dinner/tapas at night doesn't get into full swing until about 10:00p.m., I had to walk about 4-5 blocks on empty alleys or streets. I never felt in danger, but did watch my surroundings. The walk to the main district is about 5-10 minutes. The cruise/ferry port is about a 5-10 minutes walk, and the beaches 15-20 minute walk. If I were to return to Almeria i would definitely stay here again.

    Hotel virtually next day to Catherdral and not far from Alcazaba. Very charming hotel with rooms that are different and with charater. Service was good and friendly. Free internet in the room was a surprise. Only issue was that there was noise from the street.

Location. The Hotel Catedral Almeria is housed in an imposing neo-classical building that dates from 1850 and is located in the centre of the historic Spanish city of Almeria. The 16th-century cathedral is adjacent to the hotel and the Alcazaba Fortress is 600 metres away. Almeria railway station is one kilometre from the hotel. Almeria Airport is 8.5 kilometres away, with an approximate driving time of 15 minutes.

Hotel Features. The Hotel Catedral Almeria offers an outdoor spa tub and houses a lounge bar, and a buffet breakfast is served each morning. Complimentary newspapers are available in the lobby and the air-conditioned public areas offer dial-up Internet access. Staff at the 24-hour front desk can look after valuables in the safe-deposit box and provide room service (limited hours). Parking facilities are available on site (surcharge).

The Restaurant la Catedral serves Mediterranean dishes in a period setting with modern touches.

Guestrooms. The 20 guestrooms over five floors feature contemporary furnishings and are equipped with satellite television, high-speed Internet connections, direct-dial phones, minibars and bathrooms with shower/tub combinations.

Expert Tip. Climb the hill behind the town to reach the Alcazaba Fortress - the effort required is more than repaid by the superb views. The Fortress was originally built by Abd-er-Rahmán III in the tenth century.
